Good morning all !

I'm a French student actually in Hong Kong to study a semester. I am leaving at the end of may.

Was supposed to go back to France, but I got accepted to do an internship in Phuket for 3 months

Anyone know what visa should I apply ? And is it a problem I'm a French in HK which want to go to Thailand ?

So for now, the best option for me:

Non ED visa but I'm in HK and they ask for hk id and I only have my French passport. So I'm a bit stuck.

The working visa won't work as I'm doing an internship, and the tourist neither as I'm doing an internship. I guess ?

Thx !

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French student currently studying in Hong Kong is seeking advice on the appropriate visa for a 3-month internship in Phuket, Thailand. The student is unsure if they need a Non-ED visa due to their current location and residency status. Comments suggest applying through the Thai Embassy in France and warn against working in Thailand without a valid work permit. Discussing options for entering Thailand on a tourist visa and then applying for the necessary education visa is also mentioned, but caution is advised regarding the complexities of the application process.

I think the OP has good advice, and Im going to close comments.

1. You *MAY* (as in, might) be able to enter on an ED visa as a student as an intern. Talk to the company/ university about this option.

2. You *MAY* (as in might) be able to enter Thailand on a Non-B visa as an employee. Talk to the company/ consulate about this option.

3. Do *NOT* try to enter Thailand and then get an ED visa inside Thailand or a Non-B visa. The paperwork required for a Non-B visa is difficult, and there's no promise you'd get the Non-B. You *CAN NOT* work without a valid work permit.

If there's anything else to add, send a mod a message and we'll reopen comments.

You can normally get a 90-day ED visa from the HK Thai Embassy with the correct documentation. From my memory, the HK/Macau ID requirement is a typo on their website and doesn't apply to foreign applicants. We've had interns get their ED visa from HK in the past years.

James Miller do you know if I can do it in Thailand ? I go there with a tourist exemption, and apply for education once I'm there.

Cld Constant you can try...likely your only real option. Enter visa exempt on arrival 45 days plus 30 days extension = 90 days max stay

You had better to ask Thai embassy/consulate if you can apply there. If you are legit student doin semester there, you may have resident status for that.

Apply with the Thai Embassy France

You will need to apply with your home country Thai Embassy...as you state you do not hold resident status in HK...

From the HK Thai Embassy. .

"Non-Thai nationals who resides in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, may apply for a Certificate of Entry (ONLINE) with the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Hong Kong. Those residing in other countries/areas should submit their applications with their respective Royal Thai Embassies/ Royal Thai Consulate-General."

>"internship"

The word "internship" is virtually meaningless these days. Can you expand on this word?

By internship, do you mean:

1. You're enrolling with a Thai university, who will assign you to work at a job?

2. You're at a foreign university, and you'll be working at a Thai company?

3. You'll be working for a Thai company, and earning university credits for a foreign university?

@Benjamin *****
good question.

So I got accepted in a Thai company. So I will do my internship with them.

I study in a French school, so the internship will be for my school of course. I don't think I earn credits with this internship. It's just my wish to do this and take the opportunity.
