Hey guys, for my bachelor studies I'll have to do a 3-6 months internship and I am wondering with the strict regulations for foreigners concerning work if that would be any problem. Of course the internship will not be paid work. I'm on an ed visa, first extension of stay. Thanks for any insight. (FYI I study full-time at a thai university, no international program)

Answer summary

The user inquires about the possibility of completing a 3-6 month unpaid internship in Thailand on an education (ED) visa, particularly considering the strict regulations surrounding work for foreigners. Comments indicate that a work permit is generally required, even for unpaid internships, and provide external resources for further information on the subject.

@Garrett **********

is there a sort of work permit for internships and is it even possible to switch from an ed visa to non imm visa and back?

So an ed visa is a non immigrant visa, but you can't hold a wp on it. You need a WP for any volunteer or paid work.

However, if your internship is through your university I don't believe you need a work permit. I know people coming to Thailand for a few months to intern need one, but not if you're attending a Thai university and the program is through them.
