Hi, I am a French intern (ED visa) and I might need a few advice due to the current virus situation. I read that Thailand cancelled the visa exemptions for a few countries. As it changes rapidly and regarding the situation in France, it would not be surprising that Thailand extends this regulation to French citizens very soon.
So here is the situation: I have to go to Singapore tomorrow from Friday evening to Sunday evening. My current visa is valid until 28th of March, and I plan to leave the country on 14th of April.
Here are my two options but both seem a little bit sketchy:
1/ Either tomorrow I will get a re entry permit and then I am sure I can go back on Sunday, but then I'll have to leave Thailand for sure before the 28th of March. With this scenario, let's say I'm going somewhere and they actually cancel the visa exemption by then, I'm in trouble because my plan is to finish my internship on a visa exemption until 14th of April.
2/ I will just leave tomorrow and therefore cancel my visa. The risk is that by Sunday they extend the new regulation to France, but if they don't, I'll be allowed to come back + if something happens later with the visa exemption, I can just stay here on a visa exemption until they day I'm leaving back to France.
Maybe with my confused mindset I do not correctly picture other options but I feel like both are not super safe.
Your help is very much appreciated.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A French intern currently on an ED visa is seeking advice on traveling to Singapore amidst the uncertainty of visa exemptions due to COVID-19. They are considering two options: obtaining a re-entry permit before traveling or leaving without it and risking potential new restrictions upon return. Community members suggest evaluating the risks of each option, considering the lack of current restrictions, and possibly returning with a visa exemption instead.
