~Need of advice to get an ED visa from Thailand~

Hello everyone 👋🏻

I am french and I found an internship in Bangkok to finish my studies.

I am currently already in Bangkok out of quarantine (with a visa exemption that I just prolongated for 30 days until September 25th).

I went to the immigration office yesterday to apply for my ED visa and they told me that it wasn’t possible to get an ED visa on the spot for an internship at the moment. They only issue them outside Thailand or for studies in a Thai university. The embassy in France had confirmed that it was possible when I asked them before leaving but they must have had the wrong information...

I called my manager and he told me it wasn’t possible for him to provide me the papers to have a B visa and that he couldn’t take the risk to have me as an intern with a tourist visa.

So now a potential solution for me is to apply for a semester in a Thai university but the one I found which is still taking admissions (because the semesters start mid august so most of the universities don’t accept applications anymore) is quite expensive and I am not sure I can afford it …

If anyone knows an immigration office delivering ED visa under an internship or a cheap university delivering the documents for an ED visa, still taking applications and accepting international students it would really help me !

Or if someone has any other idea about what I can do, I take any advice …😅

Thank youu !

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French expat in Bangkok is seeking advice on obtaining an ED visa for an internship, as immigration officials stated that it cannot be applied for within Thailand but only for studies at a Thai university or from abroad. Despite initial confirmation from the French embassy, the expat is now considering enrolling in an expensive university or looking for more affordable options or alternatives, such as language schools, that might provide the necessary documentation for the ED visa.

What about a language school? You get an ED Visa there.

Keep in mind that you can apply for covid extensions for 1,900 baht 60 days from immigration as long as they are being sold to tide you over until you work something else out.

as you have discovered Thai embassies actually know very little about thai Immigration offices and how extensions of stay work. And vice versa. If you have a question about extensions of Stay ask immigration.
