Hi ! I just arrived in BKK for 4 months. I'm from Montreal, Canada. I got my visa from a Thai Consulate in Montreal. I paid 200$CAN to have a multiple entry visa that were supposed to be valable for 4 months. When I arrived in BKK, the immigration guy told me that my visa was only good for 2 months. What should I do ? Do I need to leave BKK ? How come the Thai Consulate in Montreal said that my visa would be ok for 4 months ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user arrived in Bangkok with a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa issued by the Thai Consulate in Montreal, expecting to stay for 4 months. However, immigration informed them that the visa is only valid for 2 months. Community members clarified that a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa allows multiple entries, each granting a 60-day stay, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. To continue their stay for the full duration, the user has to leave the country and re-enter within the visa's validity period, which resets their stay to another 60 days.

One of the problems that I have picked up on - is that the officers at the issuing Consulate do not fully explain the nature of M - Multi-Entry to the buyer of the METV. I have seen numerous posts where the holder of the METV thought that they had bought a 6 months visa TO STAY inside Thailand for 6 months... They get here to Thailand and do not have a clue that they will have to Exit and Reenter to get another 60 day stay each time and that there has to be successive border bounces to get more stays..

Single Entry Tourist Visa allow a 60 day stay, extendable for 30 days at Thai Immigration, THB 1,900.-, so total 90 days. A Multiple Entry Tourist Visa allow unlimited entries within the 6 month validity period. Each entry is good for 60 days and each entry is extendable by 30 days. After a 90 day period is up you can join a Visa Run to activate another 60 day. If you enter before the ENTER BEFORE date you get another 60 days do another 30 day extension , so you can stay up to 270 days, same as the triple entry before.

It's called "MULTIPLE ENTRY" for a reason :)

It's good for 3 x 60 days. But you have to leave the country every 60 days. Read the visa rules before you complain :)
Amornrat **********
wrong, you can extend each entry by a further 30 days at Immigration. And it is good for Multiple entries, means as many entries as you want in that particular period of validity.

Never use the guys who wait outside the consulate, saying they will fill out your paperwork and get your pictures for you...I'm surprised the Montreal consulate has those guys....

have a good time in Thailand.

Vincent Vanmilingen she has got a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. When she leaves the country and comes back within the validity of the Visa she gets 60 days admitted to stay.

EDITED as I did not know you had a multiple Entry Visa: The visa would be good for 6 months -- that means you have 6 months before you use it . When you arrive in Thailand you are given 60 days you can extend this by 30 days (fee 1,900 baht) but then will need to go out and re-enter Thailand and get another 60 days which is extendable by another 30 days !
Robert *******
The Multiple Entry Tourist Visa gives you 60 days permitted to stay on each entry. As long as your Visa is valid you leave the country just before or on the last day of Admitted to stay date stamp, come back and get another 60 days.

@So***
you don't need to pay anything (to Thailand) if you leave but you would probably have to buy a visa if you are going for example to Cambodia (which is closest to Bangkok). And you would have travel costs, and the time involved in getting to the border and back. So it can make sense to do the extension for 1,900. But if you want 4 months, exactly, then you just need to leave once and you'll get another 60 days free on return. You'll have to get to a border and pay for the Cambodian visa though.

Malaysia is free entry for Canadians- you can fly cheap to KL and come straight back. Could be about as quick either.

Angkor Wat is well worth a few days to visit if you have to leave anyway though.

If you exit and enter on the 29th December 2017, you will be allowed to stay until the 27th February 2018. On the 26th February 2018 you could get an extention of stay for 1'900 THB at an immigration office which would allow you to stay until 29th March 2018 at the most.

Correct.
