What steps can I take to improve my DTV application as an unmarried caregiver in Thailand?

Looking for advice from anyone familiar with the DTV process 🙏

My boyfriend of 5 years became seriously sick and was approved for the medical DTV for treatment in Thailand. I applied as his caretaker/partner since he currently cannot travel or move around properly without my help.

We are not married, but we submitted:

- proof of our 5-year relationship

- photos together over the years

- shared travel/living proof

- my bank statements

- explanation letters

- medical documents

For additional context, last year we stayed in Thailand for the initial 60-day tourist stay plus a 30-day extension, then did a visa run and returned for another month. This year we have only stayed under the standard 60-day tourist visa before applying for the DTV.

His visa was approved, but mine was rejected with no clear reason given.

I’m now preparing a new application and trying to figure out the best next steps so it doesn’t get rejected again. Has anyone gone through something similar as an unmarried partner/caretaker? What additional documents helped your approval?

He has already missed 3 weeks of treatment waiting through this process, so we’re trying to resolve this as quickly as possible.

He is applying for DTV as he is sick so on medical grounds it's approved. Why are you applying for DTV when you aren't eligible for any of the allowed reasons to be approved for?

Of course it will get rejected. You expect a "reason" to be given? You are not eligible. That's the reason.

Apply for a different type of visa. The Thai elite visa is your only choice.

You need to be married. Partner or civil partnerships etc arent recognised in Thailandd.

You cant apply while in the country.

You cant apply while on another visa.

You cant work in Thailand so care giving may not be allowed. But I dont know.

Hi, I applied with husband and our kid. Got rejected in Sydney and Laos. Found an advisor, applied in Hanoi and got approved. I can send you his contact, if interested.

The Workcation DTV is for remote work only. You can also apply for the Softpower option via Muay Thai, cooking etc.

In which country are you applying? There is a solution of doing it in Vietnam that is much easier and if he can travel there I know someone that can help out.

I also have mine as a medical DTV and as far as I know i'm unable to have a partner be approved through me unless married.

If it's possible you could apply through another route, like if you yourself also have a medical history in Thailand. Or if you have a digital nomad job maybe the workcation.

You would need to apply for your own DTV for your own purpose. As you are not married you can't apply for a DTV based on your boyfriend having one, whether you are his carer or not.
