DTV with sponsor - help needed

Hello everyone, I just turned 20 and I’m applying from Rome.

I’m a professional Muay Thai & Kickboxing fighter, and my goal is to spend one full year training daily in Thailand to significantly improve my level and build a real name in the sport. After carefully reviewing the available visa options, I believe the DTV seems to be the most suitable for my situation.

My father is willing to financially sponsor me and provide both his bank statements and a formal sponsorship letter.

I understand that sponsorship is officially allowed according to the website, but I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has practical experience with this. Are applications with a sponsor generally approved without issues?

For reference:

• My father can show approximately 4 to 8 million baht in his bank account over the last 6 months.

• My personal bank account currently has around 350,000 baht.

Would this be okay?

Additionally, are there any extra documents of the sponsor aside statement and letter I could include to strengthen my application?

Thank you so much everyone and sorry if this has been discussed before, but even with the search tab I couldn’t find much honestly. Thank you 🙏

could a sponsor just transfer money and say they have gifted it to you or is it easier to just say they are sponsoring you? My father is willing to transfer money for me and my son so we can get the dtv. But we would want to apply this week via London. My father happy to write letter confirming it is a gift etc

Professional, probably best to say nothing, they might think you are making a living from side fights for cash. You dont need to explain why you are doing a Muay Thai course imo

Yes, I applied through the sponsorship route as well. I didn’t need to show that my sponsor had held the required amount for six months nor show his bank statements. Instead, I transferred the funds into my own account before applying, as others in this group with the same situation advised. I included the transaction record to show the money was transferred from my dad’s account to mine.

Of course, you’ll still need:

• A clear sponsorship letter (hand-signed cover letter, proof of your relationship with the sponsor, and the transaction record mentioned earlier).

• Proof of your own income to demonstrate independence and self-subsistence (your bank statements and payslips, with the corresponding amounts highlighted).

• The gym acceptance letter and other supporting documents from the gym.

That’s all I needed. Hope this helps!

Yes — a sponsor is generally accepted for DTV, and in your case you’re actually in a stronger-than-average position (your dad’s funds are well above the usual requirement, and you also have money yourself).

That said: approval depends heavily on the Thai Embassy/Consulate you apply through, and Rome can be stricter on how clearly everything is documented.

✅ Would your finances be okay?

Almost certainly yes.

Typical DTV financial requirement is 500,000 THB (or equivalent).

You personally have ~350,000 THB, and your sponsor has 4–8 million THB for 6 months — that’s very solid.

✅ What to include to strengthen a sponsor-based DTV

Besides:

Sponsor letter

Sponsor bank statements

You should include:

1) Proof of relationship

Your birth certificate (showing your father’s name)

If needed: translation to English

2) Sponsor ID + signature

Copy of your father’s passport (or national ID)

Signed copy is often a plus

3) Proof of income/source of funds

This is one of the biggest things embassies like. Examples:

Employment letter

Payslips (last 3–6 months)

Tax return / income declaration

Company ownership docs if he’s self-employed

4) A clear “financial responsibility” statement

In the sponsor letter, include:

He will cover living expenses, training, insurance, flights if needed

Amount he will sponsor per month (even an estimate is fine)

Dates / period (ex: 12 months)

5) Your own supporting documents

Even if your father sponsors you, you should still attach:

Your own bank statement (shows independence + seriousness)

Your fight record / athlete profile (optional but helps)

Proof you are a professional fighter (license, federation, promoter, etc.)

🥊 IMPORTANT: Muay Thai training proof

Since your reason is Muay Thai training, you should include:

Gym acceptance letter / invitation

Training plan or membership confirmation

Payment receipt if possible (even deposit)

This often matters more than people think.

⚠️ The only common reason sponsor applications fail

Not money — but weak documentation.

Most refusals happen because:

sponsor letter is vague

no proof of relationship

no proof of sponsor income

statements don’t clearly show the name + balance + time period

Could he transfer you 250k baht, and you hold that in your bank and apply for the DTV In a few months? Then you won’t need a sponsor letter as you’ll have the minimum 500k baht
