TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about their Thai wife's expired passport in relation to her remain to stay visa. Comments suggest that while Thai nationals can return to Thailand with an expired passport, it’s recommended that she apply for a new passport, especially if they are in the UK. It's also noted that the Thai embassy in London requires a valid passport for travel.

If you're in the UK, Thai citizens can renew their Passports via the RTE London.

She will need to apply for a new passport to return. I do not know the details of how she would get her existing “remain to stay” visa moved from the old to the new.
I’m assuming her “remain to stay” is for another country (because she can stay in Thailand forever). I just don’t know how she could get that swapped over to the new passport once she has one.
Ok. Can’t advise on the transfer. She’s good to return on her old passport to Thailand. Will obviously need a new one to go back to UK. Perhaps they allow just to show the old expired “remain to stay” stamp from an old passport but I’ll let others with experience of such advise on whether she’d need to get it transferred
