Hi everyone, I left Thailand in 2018 without cancelling my Visa/Work Permit, and now I already changed my passport and would want to go back to Thailand soon for Travel/Work, will I get banned? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the potential consequences of leaving Thailand in 2018 without canceling their visa/work permit, especially after changing their passport, and whether they would be banned upon returning. Community responses generally suggest that the user is unlikely to face a ban but may encounter issues when trying to obtain new visas or permits due to the status of their previous visa and work permit. It is advisable for the user to confirm the cancellation of their old visa/work permit before seeking new employment.

You won’t get banned but I suggest you that when you come back in Thailand you should cancel your old work visa and old work permit before get a new job.

hi Noon thank you so much, can I do it on my own? I would assume my company already cancelled it since it has been 4 years already

You should ask your company first. If not, you have to cancel it. You can cancel your visa and work permit by yourself but you have to prepare the document for cancel visa and work permit in Thai language.

you won't have any problem getting in on either a visa exempt OR a single entry tourist visa

AND

you most likely wouldn't have a problem getting a 90 day Non-B visa (if you found a job) BUT when you go to get a work permit and/or get an extension on that new Non-B they'll see you never cancelled the earlier one

It could cause you some grief.

thank you so much tod, but I am not sure if my company cancelled my work permit since it has been 4 years already, how will I be able to know that?

you'll find out when you go to apply for a new work permit ;)

I’m on a one year contract with about 6 months left, we’ll be done somewhere around the end of the year or early Jan.

When it’s done I have to turn in my work permit. What is required to do that? The Thai “sponsor company” I’m working for had never had any foreign employees before me and it’s been a real shit show so far.

If it matters I’m on a Non O extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai.

just go with your termination paperwork to the Ministry of Labour and cancel your work permit based on stopping work.

It won't affect your extension at all because you are on one that is based on marriage not employment

hi tod thanks for your reply, will my record still show even if I have new passport with new password number?

@Cris *********
yep, your previous history will still come up in the immigration data base. Even if you entered on a passport from another country. The data base searches by surname, DOB, sex, nationality, etc,

If you get another job here and go to get a work permit, Non-B visa you won't get around having them see you cut and ran without cancelling your earlier work permit and visa extension before you left. ;)

Did you leave with any tax owing? Having said that I have known guys just walk away from businesses and come back no issues.
