What should my mum do to avoid overstaying her visa exemption in Thailand?

Hi all! Thanks for the amazing help always! I have one question:

My mum (Spanish passport holder) is coming to visit me for 2 months. He is going to enter as a tourist without a visa (she’s granted 45 days visa exemption). Her flight out of Thailand is 62 days after she enters. We will do a visa extension. Is she going to be allowed into Thailand if her visa exemption is 45 days? Should she take something with her to show I work and live here? TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Spanish passport holder is planning to visit Thailand for two months and is concerned about potential overstaying her visa exemption, which is typically 30 days. The user mistakenly considers a 45-day exemption that has been phased out. Comments clarify that upon arrival without a visa, she will receive a 30-day stamp, which can be extended for another 30 days, totaling 60 days. The best option is to apply for a 60-day tourist visa before traveling to avoid complications.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visa excempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

thaievisa.go.th

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

Then no need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

With Spanish passport you’re entitled to 30 days visa exemption. The extension is only 30 days again. (45 days during Covid). So this gives up to 60 days in total. I would recommend that your mum apply for a 60 days tourist visa at the Thai embassy in Madrid before she leave and extend this with 30 days at the local immigration in Thailand. Then you’re safe and there’s no overstay.

They use E-visa so you apply online with a personal user.

No, if you get a tourist visa for her, she can have 60 days and 30 days extension. You only get one extension pr entry.

If she comes on a 30 days visa exemption, she can also extend it with 30 days one time.

It’s possible to do a border run and just cross the border one time and get another 30 days visa exemption so you can avoid the overstay if you choose this option.

no. Sorry if that's not helpful 😄. She should get the 60 day TV and extend that.

You're incorrect. There is no 45 day stamp. If she arrives without a visa she will get a 30 day stamp and can apply one time for a 30 day extension. That's 59 days in total since the day of arrival is counted as day 1.

That's not sufficient time based on what you've said. She would overstay her permission to be in Thailand. And her airline might not let her board her flight without proof of a ticket out of Thailand win 30 days.

She should apply for a tourist visa before traveling which will give her 60 days on arrival and can apply one time for a 30 day extension.
