Hi, I'm trying to leave Myanmar in a hurry. I think the only thing I can get is the visa exempt. I would like to stay longer in Thailand--has anyone had a problem trying to change it to something else or am I just going to have to leave in 45 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is urgently planning to leave Myanmar and enter Thailand, likely on a visa exemption, but is concerned about the limitations of staying longer in Thailand. Community responses emphasize the importance of knowing one's nationality for visa eligibility, encouraging the user to contact the Thai embassy for accurate information. Suggestions include applying for a 60-day tourist visa prior to entry and taking advantage of potential Covid-19 related extensions still available until May 29. Users mention the possibility of a 30-day extension upon arrival in Thailand and express hope for further extensions.
1. What is your nationality? IF you're a passport holder of Myanmar (Burma), you *DO NOT* quality for a visa exemption, but instead a bilateral agreement. IF you are from *MOST* other countries, you do qualify to enter on a visa exempt.
2. CONTACT THE THAI EMBASSY ASAP! There's not too much information online about their visas or entry, but you can find information at
3. A 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is a temporary extension of stay, and the last day is being sold is May 29. However, they have been extending it, but it is NOT a long term solution to stay in Thailand.
4. I HIGHLY recommend getting a 60 day tourist visa before arriving in Thailand, to get just a little bit more time to stay in Thailand.
The break is coming up in a week or two, and schools *NEED* teachers. I recommend searching Facebook for Teaching in Thailand groups, and Thailand teaching job websites, and apply for jobs. Good schools will be able to get you a work permit and a Non-B visa inside Thailand.
(MAYBE... The government is cracking down on that though)

If you are in Myanmar, it might be a good idea to just get out and figure out the rest of it later - just a thought ๐
The OP can enter on an Single Entry Tourist Visa that's good for 60 days, OR a bilateral agreement for 30 days [I don't know if it was extended for 45 days], and a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism can be purchased
They have extended the ability to apply for 60 day covid visa extensions until May 29th.

According to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs website the reduced quarantine has been approved, you may read it here tvc.co.th/MFA-COE

Get the 30 day extension once in Thailand. Then cross your fingers they extend the covid19 60 days extension program yet again (for the zillionth time). That's what I'm doing. Way easier than a TR or STV nonsense and probably will get to stay as long with good luck.
you will be able to extend the visa-exempt for 30 more days, for 1900 THB, at the Immigration just shortly before the 45 days admitted stay run out. Most Immigration Offices want you to use the 30-days extension before they allow you to hop onto the 60-days covid19-extension. Some offices let you have the 60 days right away. It depends on the office
Thanks for the clarification. Yeah it won't work for me because I'll get 45 days until the end of May, and as I understand, am required to get a 30 day extension before I can ask for the 60 days Covid.
and then there is this, the 30 days "normal" extension will be counted on top of the initial 45 days, whilst the 60-days covid19 extension will be counted from the day you apply for it
