Can I move to another province during the 'under consideration' period for my Non O visa extension based on marriage?

Non O extension of stay based on marriage, got an under consideration stamp the other day at Chiang Rai immigration, have to go back on 23rd July for 1 year stamp (can apply here 45 days before expiry and then they put final stamp in 30 days after expiry).

Can I move to Surin and get final stamp there or do I have to wait and use same office?

Also have 90 day report on 23rd June.

Want to move province, not excited about waiting 8 more weeks....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they can relocate to Surin after receiving an 'under consideration' stamp for their Non O visa extension based on marriage while they are required to return to the same immigration office for the final stamp. The consensus from comments is that the user should not move until the extension process is finalized at their current immigration office in Chiang Rai, as their case is currently under consideration, and home visits to verify marriage status may still be required.

The short answer IS you can move if you want to

BUT

I wouldn't file a TM30 at the new office on your new address

AND

you definitely have to go back to the office that you applied for the extension and and which gave you the under consideration stamp to get the year extension inked in.

Do you think they mistakenly stamped July and not June? Seems like an extraordinarily long time for under consideration.

No mistake, last extension is valid until 25th June. Under consideration is for first 30 days but here we can apply 45 days before.

My opinion is to go to your local immigration office and just ask them to confirm they meant to give you an under consideration stamp until July. While you're "under consideration", you must meet the requirements for the extension of stay, which means you have to show 400K THB in a Thai bank account IF you're using the banked money method.

Thanks, I have the money in the bank in case they ask again but this office only requires proof when applying (letter from bank and statement showing it's seasoned). Last year was the same. My balance will remain above 400k in case they change their mind on the day..

We did ask about the 23rd July when we applied, they said it's 30 days after my current 1 year permission is finished. We also asked about the home visit, they said not required as we had one last year (I'd even prepared copies of my neighbours ID card and blue book when we reapplied). They also told me that my wife can take my passport in July, no need for me to go!

Last year was only 30 days under consideration as it was my first time applying for a 1 year extension, prior to Covid we would go to Savanaket every year for a new multi entry non O (long drive from Mae Sai!)

BTW may I ask...

Are you still married your Thai wife and now living together in the same house ?

It's unusual for you to apply for the extension of stay based on Marriage then want to move to another province during the usual one month waiting/under consideration period.

PS, much more than 1 month. Here can apply 45 days prior to expiry (which I did) then they ask you to come back 30 days after expiry - that's 75 days!

I didn't want to move then rush to apply at an office I didn't know, especially after all they made me go through last year (long story, 11 visits all up plus a trip to embassy in Bangkok).... This year we were in and out in less than 1 hour, all paperwork completed and under consideration stamp in passport!!!

Yes, married and have child. We all moving! Not my first yearly extension, no visit from immigration required (I asked) and no further proof of funds required with Chiang Rai (Mae Sai) office.

I was reasonably sure we'd have to stay put till I got my stamp, just wanted to know if anyone has done it before!

Thank you for your helpful reply and clarification. I hope all goes well with your extension of stay. Sounds like you made the right decision to get the extension of stay where you did rather than having to go thru all the steps to get it in a new immigration office.

If you really need to move earlier than your under consideration stamp, you better to talk your current immigration office in advance.

I don't think you can close under consideration stamp at different immigration office anyway.

Just curious, why you didn't move to a new place first then applied for a yearly extension... You still have almost one more month with your current extension and you are saying you don't want to wait for one more extra month..

Just from curiosity, no need to comment for this by anyone.

We are having a new extension built, don't want to move until it's finished, also Surin immigration is 2 hours by car, We currently live 5 minutes from Mae Sai immigration. I'll just have to move after the 23rd July then drive 4 hours return to register new address at Surin immigration (quarantine pending).

In case I'm right and if you can move to another province appropriately (means both IO would have no problem with that and you submit all documents properly), you still need to back to the ChiangRai office to close your under consideration stamp.

You must use the immigration office where you reside and applied for your one year extension of stay based on Marriage to Thai.

They will visit you at home during this period of time as part of the approval process including visiting with your Thai wife, family and neighbors.

DO NOT MOVE AT THIS TIME

And do not touch the 400,000 Thai baht that is required for your one year extension of stay based on Marriage to Thai..

You need to show proof of that bank account balance when you return to get your one year extension of stay stamp on the date you have been told to return to Thai immigration.
