Asking for a friend of mine. He’s here on a 30 day exemption (uk passport) as he let his retirement visa slip. He planned to go to immigration to extend tomorrow but just checked his passport and the date was yesterday. I’m doubtful you can extend after already having overstayed and I guess he needs to pay the overstay and get out of dodge ASAP but appreciate some advice on his behalf. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the possibility for a friend who is on a 30-day visa exemption in Thailand and has accidentally overstayed by one day. The responses suggest that it may be possible to extend the visa without incurring an overstay charge if he visits immigration promptly, especially if the expiration date fell on a weekend.

If your visa expires out on a weekend and you go on the Monday, they extend it from the day it expired, and no overstay charge, I've done I many times.
If it runs out in the week and you overstay, they extend it from the expiry date, and you pay however many days you have overstayed, I've donw this many times.
Inmigration is closed at weekend so providing he goes tomorrow he should be fine to extend. I think I'm right in saying if the stamp is a weekend you are ok to go on the Monday
Hi Sarah, yeah he said he reard that somewhere online now. Appreciate the response but if anyone has actually done something similar would be good to hear for clarification. Thanks
