Wanted to share my 1st experience returning to BKK with DTV (soft power) and a new passport. I had to get my passport replaced since it was damaged.

Reached my 180 days a couple of days ago and flew to HCMC for a couple of days. First when I left I had to go to immigration to transfer the DTV from my old passport to new one. I had to show them both.

Flew back to BKK, had the TDAC ready with e-visa #. I handed the immigration officer my new passport. He asked me what I did. I responded that I was taking a cooking course. He asked me how long the course was for. I said 6 months but that I hadn't finished it. Then he gave me back my passport. Before leaving I asked him if I needed to take another cooking course next time I come back (i.e. in 180 days) and he said yes.
Answer summary
The post details the author's experience returning to Bangkok (BKK) with a new passport after having their old one damaged. Upon leaving Thailand, they transferred their DTV (digital training visa) from the old passport to the new one by showing both to immigration. Upon returning, they were asked about their cooking class, which is related to their DTV. Comments in the discussion suggest that individuals must maintain their visa validity by continuing their course after its initial completion, as immigration seems to be cracking down on those not fulfilling visa requirements.

Interesting case — when you went through immigration with the new passport, did they transfer/reference the DTV from your old passport, or was showing both passports enough? Would be useful to know for anyone who has to replace a passport while on a DTV.

OP
The transfer happened on the way out where I gave them both passports. Auto gate wouldn't let me through since my passport never "entered" Thailand and I was sent to immigration. On the way back I only showed the new passport.

Hi can you clarify, did you have the DTV - the Visa itself on your passport? And was that transferred? Or are you referring to just the stamp?

Asking since I have the physical DTV on my passport and I'm getting a new passport soon

OP
I have an e-visa which I got from the Thai consulate when I got the DTV. When I entered Thailand with the previous passport they added the typical red stamp that says DTV under 'visa class'. In the new passport I have a different stamp with a bunch of details that references the previous passport since the e-visa mentions the old passport number. Yours might be different. Arrive a bit earlier next time you leave. You won't be able to go through the auto gates and then the immigration officer will probably do what he/she needs to do to transfer it (bring both passports!) if yours is on the passport.

So how did immigration transfer your visa? Did they give you a new stamp?

OP
Yes when I was leaving the auto gate didn't work for me and had to go to the immigration desk. I have a stamp in the new passport referencing the old passport.

Why would you ask the IO that? dude.

Anyway, your visa is specifically for certain classes. Although you're only required to do a 6-month course, IMO if you don't re-enroll, you're taking a gamble every time you leave.

Absolutely. Why prompt something you don't want to hear and are trying to avoid? Qualifying requirements end when a DTV is issued. There's no need to enrol on any subsequent course. In the unlikely event of being asked your purpose of visit, answering 'vacation' has proven acceptable.

IO was correct, please ignore clueless people. There is a crackdown atm for people that only take 6 months Muay Thai or cooking class and have nothing after. Because once you are at immigration, you have to show what you are actually doing in relation to your visa. And if you cant show anything, you will likely get denied in 6 months.

1. You can't move the DTV to another passport.

2. You don't need to take a new course once your original one is finished.

3. Stop trying to sponsor agencies trying to scare people into buying more courses.

You need to buy a new course because you cannot only have a 6 months course for a 5 years visa. More and more people denied entry on Muay Thai, for example, after calling the school, they no longer take classes. The same with cooking class. You have to show that the visa sill apply to you. If you have nothing to show to officer, it wont work. Many reports already.

StunningDeer1930 yes these people are complete clowns. They know exactly what you mean when you say you’re using your dtv in a new passport but they have no lives so they live off semantics.
