What should I know about the 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa for Thailand and how to handle return tickets?

Received approval today for my 60 day Single entry TV, even though I put 89 days which my return flights are for.

I will still buy a cheap exit ticket from Thailand before the 60 days expire, just in case there are any questions at the UK departure.

But at least I will save a few hundred pounds from changing the ticket dates from 59 to 89 days, as I found to my cost last year.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares approval for a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa for Thailand, despite initially requesting 89 days. They plan to purchase a cheap exit ticket to relieve potential issues at UK departure. Comments indicate that a 60-day tourist visa does not legally require a return ticket, but having one can ease check-in situations. There are discussions about the potential for changes in visa policies by the new government, alongside inquiries about extending the tourist visa.

May i ask when applying for Tourist Visa extension. Does the extended stamp, start date continue from day 60 or does it start on the day of extension given at immigration?

From 60 days, otherwise you would not get 90 days.

60 days Tourist visa needs a return ticket. Where to get a cheap ticket as I intend to extend my stay by another month and not use this return ticket.

You don't need it, with 60 day visa. Just say , yes you have return, flight, if asked.

Hopefully the new Government/TAT will review and open up the Visa restrictions ( a 6 months tourist visa entry 1 90 day stamp requirement)End the Kamikaze border runs.JMO

Nice. It's refreshing there's a bit of logic going on these days. Probably an overkill to get a ticket out for check in. You can always do that at the time if they are gunna be ass hats about it. They most likely won't say anything in regards to it

It's a Tourist Visa not a long-term Visa so there is every chance of a challenge for onward travel

Contacted Emirates this morning and explained the difference in days, they told me as long as I have a return ticket and approval from the Thai Embassy, there is no problem.

But like always, I am never easy until my bum is on the seat.

As I already mentioned if they put up a stink you can buy a ticket at check in but you'll be safe my man. I got a 60tr with a return flight after 150 days and thai airways only said 'oh long time in Thailand!' I was asked at immigration if I had a ticket to Cambodia for my visa run and I said nup and I was still stamped in.

I understand the caution, but we always fly from Manchester with 60 day setv, and then extend. We have flown Qatar, Singapore, Etihad, BA, Malaysian and Emirates, and there’s never been any issues with visa not matching duration of stay ( return flight). As I see it, it’s the only way to do it, being as they don’t do a 90 day tourist visa 👍

Single entry tourist visas are for 60 days on arrival. The fact you asked for more is irrelevant.

It was always my understanding you had to apply for 60 days or less, then get a 30 day extension.

old requirement it seems. I'm Ozzie and on the Ozzie embassy page what use to be written as a exit flight within 60 days required has now got a new clause which states or an explanation for staying longer. They've obviously realised extensions and border runs are well within the rules so they've loosened this up.
