What should I know about entering Thailand with a return ticket exceeding the new 60-day exempt stamp period?

I was going to come to Thailand for my next trip,on the new 60 exempt stamp,not so sure now,

The reason being.

I normally state 89 days stay in Thailand when I apply for an STV, then apply for a 30 day extension in Thailand.

Now if the IMO on entry checks my return ticket which would be in excess of the 60 days, I could be refused entry.

Anyone arrived on the new 60 day exempt rule with return ticket in excess of 60 days ?.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses concerns about entering Thailand on the new 60-day exempt stamp, particularly regarding the requirement of a return ticket that exceeds the allowed stay period. Users share varied experiences related to airline check-in policies and the necessity of showing a return flight. Many suggest alternatives like booking flexible flights or not purchasing a ticket until required, as well as considering other visa options like the TR multi-entry visa or a longer-term visa to avoid complications. Overall, it addresses the importance of understanding both immigration regulations and specific airline requirements.

Book a refundable ticket just before heading to the airport, then cancel it once arrived

Go for the TR multi entry visa - no issues then 👍

Get the 90 day e-visa.

My experience is Thai Air is ok

Qantas are a problem, they may question you on exit from Australia.

@Philip *******
never been asked by Quanta’s or Jetstar and been flying in and out regularly over the last 30 years.

When going for the 60 days touristvisa, you have asked for permission to visit Thailand for up to 60 days.

Then you have to show you appreciates that, and will leave Thailand in accordance with that agreement, and have a onward ticket.

Then when near the end of the 60 days, you can change your mind, and ask for a extension.

If you don’t want the hassle with onward ticket etc. you either leave within 60 days, or get a visa that allows you to stay 90 days

.

I obtained my 60 day TV online last year, stating 89 days stay with no refusal from the UK Thai Consulate.

Sometimes people are not being allowed to board the plane to Thailand, if the ticket and “visa-period” don’t match.

FWIW, I didn’t even have to show a flight back on my Non O visa application, and Japan AirLines (from LAX) said they don’t ask to see one, I actually asked them if I needed one after reading some comments on here about about people getting questioned.

@Eric *****
For Non imm. O you never needed a return flight.

I don’t think it asked for a screenshot or anything, just a return date. I just typed a date in, I never had a return flight booked.

wow, it can be that cheap, but I expect you need to cancel or you will pay the full price.

@Richard *******
, they aren't actual flught tickets. They just sell you a very real looking flight confirmation in real flights for $5 u.s.

It's not a real ticket although it will pass as confirmation at immigration if asked
Mike *******
just book a cheap flight elsewhere for day 60...but dont use it

Generally immigration won’t care that you have a flight out after your initial number of entry days, but your airline could insist.

Air 🇨🇦 are notoriously difficult…..and have always requested proof of departure b4 my visa expires

@Tim ******
that’s odd. I’ve flown from Toronto to Bangkok loads of times, and most of those times, I didn’t have a return flight booked. Not once has Air Canada asked for proof of departure. Two years ago, I didn’t even have a Thai visa, but no problem.

Emirates were OK with a return flight for 89 days,

on the SIngle Entry TV for 60 days.

Never questioned, as long as you have a return flight booked

book a flex ticket and change your return flight.

When checking in with Lufthansa they wanted to see our flight out on day 59 when we were staying 89 days. So I would check with your airline or book a cheap flight...

Different people will have different experiences. Some airlines will insist, some won’t care. The fact that you got in ok has no real relevance to others’ experiences
