TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat discusses their experience renewing a bank card at K Bank in Thailand after receiving a new UK passport. They advise keeping the old passport during this process, as banks may not be fully updated with the new passport information. Various commenters share similar experiences, emphasizing the importance of updating personal information with banks and keeping old passports for reference, particularly when changing from EU to UK passports.
Yip, exact same happened to me in Kasikorn Jomtien,
I have a copy of my old one in my iCloud luckily..
Good advice ππ»

A copy of the old passport information page is good enough. No need to bring the actual passport along especially if you longer have it. You only need to bring the actual current passport with you.
You should always keep your old passports anyway for various reasons including proof of visa/s

Or at least copies. I've been in this situation and copies or photos of my old passports sufficed. The current one had to be the actual one though.

In America, when you renew your PP, the old one goes with the application when mailed off. I took a picture of old one. I hated to part with it. Maybe when new one comes , the old may be with it?
they send you the old one back as well. I believe they come separate.

They are just being difficult. I opened my Thai account nearly 20 years ago and have had 3 new passports since then. Got a new card and changed home address with new UK passport just recently.

I'm with K bank and Bangkok bank, just received my new uk passport. Thanks for the heads up Chris
Unnecessary until you actually have to renew things. If you need to renew your debit or credit cards, driver's license etc. Then inform the authorities, one by one according to which ones need updating. If no updating is needed, why bother? Your bank card and driver's license functionality doesn't cease with the issuance of a new passport as they aren't linked. They cease only when they expire.
Itβs irrelevant what passport you hold, if you renew it, you must inform the relevant authorities, the local police, in case of accident, the local hospital , your bank and most importantly your accountant πππ
When I updated my new passport info a couple years ago (Bangkok Bank Siam Paragon), they didn't even tell me what they were doing until they were finished. They actually CLOSED my account and opened a new account with the new info.
Is a Dutch passport a 'real European passport' ? With me on the first page (passport from 2017), there is my bsn number (The Burgerservicenummer (BSN) is a unique personal number for everyone who is registered in the Personal Records Database)
correct me if I'm wrong but Thai banks don't automatically send out new cards by mail. You actually have to show up at a branch in person before the expiration date and they'll issue a new one on the spot.
us that are not intelligent like you and don't use internet believe it or not we have to go into the bank every time card is due for expiring .some people, came out of poxie EU ,because we were supporting other countries. Shit happens
