What should I do when renewing my bank card after obtaining a new passport in Thailand?

Just a bit of advice.

My bank card expires soon went to K Bank to renew today.

No she said you have a new passport. She needed my old passport as numbers are different to what you opened the account with. Go job I kept old passport. The banks aren't up to date with new uk passport. After further hour she finally clicked on UK passport she was trying to enter GBR ,in the end got it done ,keep your old passport for this.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat discusses their experience renewing a bank card at K Bank in Thailand after receiving a new UK passport. They advise keeping the old passport during this process, as banks may not be fully updated with the new passport information. Various commenters share similar experiences, emphasizing the importance of updating personal information with banks and keeping old passports for reference, particularly when changing from EU to UK passports.

Yep banks and driving licence too.
Bobby *********
Yip, exact same happened to me in Kasikorn Jomtien,

I have a copy of my old one in my iCloud luckily..

Good advice πŸ‘πŸ»
Paul *******
A copy of the old passport information page is good enough. No need to bring the actual passport along especially if you longer have it. You only need to bring the actual current passport with you.

Or old passport info
Mark ********
You should always keep your old passports anyway for various reasons including proof of visa/s
Paul *******
Or at least copies. I've been in this situation and copies or photos of my old passports sufficed. The current one had to be the actual one though.
Tom *********
Thai banking is insane and incredibly backwards!
Geoff ********
Commin sense I keep my old one..pmsl
Edna *******
In America, when you renew your PP, the old one goes with the application when mailed off. I took a picture of old one. I hated to part with it. Maybe when new one comes , the old may be with it?
James *********
@Edna ******
they'll mail the old one back, with a hole punched through it
Ben *****
@Edna ******
they send you the old one back as well. I believe they come separate.

As soon as you have a new passport , just inform all the relevant authorities.
Paul *******
@Gordon ***********
Unnecessary until you actually have to renew things. If you need to renew your debit or credit cards, driver's license etc. Then inform the authorities, one by one according to which ones need updating. If no updating is needed, why bother? Your bank card and driver's license functionality doesn't cease with the issuance of a new passport as they aren't linked. They cease only when they expire.

@Chris ********************
It’s irrelevant what passport you hold, if you renew it, you must inform the relevant authorities, the local police, in case of accident, the local hospital , your bank and most importantly your accountant πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

of course, but I didn't have to change anything else.

In Thailand you have to show passport to get discount on a pint of Swensons ice cream,or redeam your Tops pts.

I ment new passport because new UK passport has a different number from old EU passport

Not in Thailand, have had 2 PP renewals, 3 D/L renewals.

But should always keep old PP to remember when you were where.

Old PP's reflect over 70 countries.

Memories get a bit foggy. Like tooly fog.

In real European passports on the first page is mentioned the number of the old passport. So no problem for Europeans.
Peter ****************
@Hans *****
Is a Dutch passport a 'real European passport' ? With me on the first page (passport from 2017), there is my bsn number (The Burgerservicenummer (BSN) is a unique personal number for everyone who is registered in the Personal Records Database)

yes good but you need courent passport number as new driver license has finger print and 12 points on it plus address
Paul *******
@Gordon ********
In practice, for a drivers license I wouldn't bother updating your passport number. Just do it when you next renew.

Moral of the story: Immediately update information with banks and other relevant activities connected to your passport.

@Joseph ********
you have to show your new passport in branch, as far as I'm aware
Paul *******
@Chris ********************
correct me if I'm wrong but Thai banks don't automatically send out new cards by mail. You actually have to show up at a branch in person before the expiration date and they'll issue a new one on the spot.
