What should I do if the Thai embassy rejects my insurance coverage for the Phuket Sandbox program?

No STV or O and CoE received. Who has experience with the Thai embassy or consulate? It affects insurance over $ 100,000. The flight will be operated through the Phuket Sandbox program for 4 months in November 2021. All requirements were met and documents submitted. As requested by Thailand, the AIG (FLIGHT by Emirates) insurance company has confirmed in English that medical expenses including Covid-19 are insured up to a sum of 500,000 US dollars. That is more than 100,000 US dollars, but the Thai embassy has now explicitly requested a certificate that at least 100,000 US dollars are covered for Covid-19. The insurance company refuses to show the amount separately on the grounds that the contracts are worldwide, which meet the requirements of the Thai embassy and will therefore not be changed. What should I do ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues with obtaining their Certificate of Entry (CoE) for travel to Thailand's Phuket Sandbox program due to the Thai embassy requiring a specified minimum COVID-19 insurance coverage. Despite having a policy that covers up to $500,000, the embassy insists on a separate certificate showing at least $100,000 for COVID-19 specifically. Various comments suggest solutions, including requesting a cover letter from the insurance company that outlines COVID-19 coverage, and highlighting specific sections regarding COVID coverage in the insurance documents when resubmitting them to the embassy.

Did you get an insurance document from AIG that looks like this? (this was the policy format for last year/earlier this year so it may have changed but should be this type of similar policy doc.) If that is the case, many travellers had posted before that the consulates would miss the line that specifically mentions COVID coverage and would deny the COE until the same page was resubmitted with the COVID coverage line highlighted, and then it was always approved. In my example, it is the last line where I drew the red arrow. If this line is in your policy doc, then resubmit it with that line circled or highlighted. This is assuming your coverage term isn't the issue, as the AIG coverage is for the exact dates of your roundtrip Emirates ticket. If you do NOT have the policy doc, then you need to email

with a copy of your Emirates roundtrip e-ticket and ask them to send it to you.

Yes, I received the same document from AIG. Thanks very much. You helped me a lot with the copy of the policy. My insurance policy covers exactly the 4 months that are on the Emirates ticket. I applied for an STV that I wanted to extend by 1 month at the immigration office in Thailand.

So I'll mark or highlight the insurance policy under Section C again and submit it again. I hope it works.

should post this as seperate question, will be lost down on this thread.

1)You can get visa exempt for 30 days no need for visa

2) Have to wait for announcement next week

3) its only 2 to 3 hours drive Phuket to Krabi and no flights

Maybe that's why they get you to get insurance from a thai company .

Keep the money inside the country

Tony Cabello. Thai companies do make it easier because they know the exact wording to put on the certificate, plus there are no problems with overseas "do not travel" stipulations. However, unlike the dreaded OA insurance there is no requirement to buy from a Thai company.

Yes, that can be good. But I can't take out a second insurance policy, then I'd rather throw everything away

Ask the insurance company for a cover letter stating what the covid cover is.

This is fairly common your agent may not have come across it but insurance company will have.

Doesnt have to be a certificate.

thank you 🐼🀩 Yes, I asked them to do just that to add this addition about Covid 19 and the $ 100,000. But they don't do. So I have just written to them and asked for a short separate letter. Let's see what they answer.
