TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring whether their US insurance policy, which includes COVID-19 treatment but lacks a specific dollar amount for COVID coverage, will be acceptable to the Thai consulate as proof of COVID insurance for their visa application. Community comments suggest that insurance documentation must explicitly state the coverage amount for COVID-19 treatment. It is advised to obtain a cover letter from the insurance company or to consider alternative travel insurance policies that meet Thai requirements.

Safetywing and AXA are 2 companies I've heard mentioned as reputable

LMG? Does your insurance pay directly to a hospital? We had US insurance that covers, but, had to file a claim. This was before the requirements changed. Think the AXA offers monthly policies that are accepted, and directly pay the hospital. We're looking to return on OA visas, and know requirements differ

i dont need reputable i only need cheap as i have full insurance but thais wont accept it.

The embassy wants to see Covid and 100,000. They won't accept "anything," "everything," or "unlimited."

At least in the US, most companies will never say you are covered for something in writing. I ended up just getting a cheap throwaway travel insurance policy to meet the requirement even though my regular insurance will cover my as well.

ok any suggestions for the throw away insurance? insurance in general is a scam. for anything

it's not a scam when you are stuck paying the hospital bills

I used insubuy.com but I don't know if it's available anywhere outside the US. Very cheap if you pick a higher deductible and you can print a Visa letter moments after you pay. It's also cancellable or delayable up until the effective date.

Brandon Thurkettle and two expats ended up paying over 150,000 Thai baht each out of their pocket as they bought the cheap policy from insubuy and they denied paying the claim for testing positive for Covid without symptoms.

Citing escape clause..

Not medically necessary.

Just how much was that insubuy policy ...and for how many months?

@James *******
I'm not advocating using it as your policy if you have problems, I'm advocating using it as a cheap throwaway policy to get your COE and falling back on your regular insurance that won't issue an insurance letter if you actually need coverage in Thailand.

brandon, if im coming in on tourist visa for two months. do i need travel insurance , ilooked on site you suggested, and thier are many policys i just want the cheapest one that thais will accept. im not gonna use it any ways as i havefull world wide coverage on my policy i have been paying for for 15 years. i trust that one more than some fly by night company that is gonna say i misspelled a word so im not gonna be covered. i dont trust insurance companys. finally if im coming in on two month visa and i nneed the covid iinisurance policy. i wonder if it needs to be for a certain time period as im hopeing to extend my two months a month after entering. will they require the bogus insurance for that time period as well? or do i just get the two month policy and then i dont need once in kingdom doing extentions. i mean if this insurance is just a throw away insurnance. why doesnt a company start a throw away policy for people that are fully covered on reputable insurance. but the thais wont accept the good insurance and want the scam insurance?
Brandon ************
@Bill ********
the insurance only needs to be as long as your initial Visa. They don't look at insurance again if you extend.

Here is a sample you can show your insurance company
Suzz *****
I called my insurance company and asked them to email me stating my name and that I was covered for x amount specifically for Covid and sent the email. I had originally sent the insurance certificate and the policy but I think it was too much info for the embassy staff to trawl through to find the info. A short simple direct email did the trick.
Andy *******
All you can do is try but it's pretty mandatory that it's state the dollar amount for covid insurance.
@Arawan ******
is my go-to both in and out of country
Michael ********
Ask them for a cover letter for the covid insurance specifically

u mean a special letter with my name on it. they wont do that. its a big insurance company they only send out generic info .. all i can do is send it in with explanation and phione number of company if they have questions
Oor ********
@Bill ********
and could it could be one of your friends that they phone if they have any questions. I would assume that the big companies would issue a cover letter it is the small companies that won't due to added costs.

well other companies do and most are big companies
