What are the current requirements for COVID-19 insurance when traveling to Thailand in April?

Morning Folks,

Looks like we are finally going to get back to Thailand in April, A couple of questions have popped up and I wonder if anyone can help.

I'm flying Emirates into Phuket. When I originally booked the flight, half a lifetime ago :) , Emirates provided the required covid insurance. Looking at their site now, it seems that that deal expires on 31st March so:

Is the $100,000 covid cover still a requirement?

My annual multi-trip policy specifies £2m in medical cover. Will that meet the covid cover requirement or will it need to be a separate policy?

Thanks for help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The traveler inquired about the current COVID-19 insurance requirements as they plan to travel to Thailand in April 2022. They sought clarification on whether their existing travel insurance, which has a £2 million medical coverage, meets the rule of having a $100,000 COVID cover, and if a separate policy would be necessary. Comments suggest that as long as the travel insurance specifies coverage for COVID-related cases, it should comply with Thai regulations, which require a minimum of $50,000 coverage. The situation regarding insurance requirements appears to be fluid, so confirming with the insurance provider is recommended.

Your own travel insurance is good enough Thailand only requires you to have $50,000 covid insurance

If you have booked and fully paid for the flight before the cut off date of 31st of March I would have thought it would still be valid for your travel dates.

I wondered about that but the wording seems to be 'travel by 31st March'. Original booking was December 2020! I did print the policy at that time so will go back and have another look.

just wondered as when I booked my flight they had a free travel insurance scheme going which covered the whole length of the trip which was handy as I was coming for 3 months. This was stopped at the end of December. But because I had paid for my flights before the cut off date they still honored the insurance even though my flight wasn't until the end of January. As I say that's how it was with the old scheme, I have no idea what the new scheme is. But certainly worth double checking.

Interestingly, I just went and checked. That cover specifically cuts off at 31st March.

There is a multi-risk policy that pre-dates it though for flights booked between 21st December 2020 and November 30th 2021 so it looks like that one is a fit for me.

My only thought there is that I changed the flight to HKT rather than BKK because it seemed like a safer bet. I've emailed the insurer to find out and get the policy.

Hope all this fluffing around is worth it :)

Just called them and it's covered apparently. It's on page 51 of 62 in the insurance booklet provided. Can't imagine how I missed that... :)

I guess the situation is changing quite quickly now so it may not even be a thing by April. I'll try and get confirmation from the provider, best to be sure.

Covid tests seem like a gouge at 4200baht but that is what it is and I can't imagine such a lucrative operation being dismantled any time soon so I'll just pay that and suck it up :)

P.S its US$50,000 now

As long as it states it covers Covid then it should be fine .

I would also

Check it covers asymptomatic cases

You will need get a cover letter from your insurance company, specifying that it covers covid related stuff. There are some examples before in previous posts
