Will a letter from my insurance company suffice for a retirement visa application in Thailand if they won't sign the required certificate?

So my insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield (US) wont sign the insurance certificate but did write me an official letter stating unlimited coverage AND at least 100,000 in Covid coverage. Do you think that will be sufficient and accepted? Applying for a retirement visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is concerned about the acceptability of a letter from Blue Cross Blue Shield stating unlimited coverage and specific Covid-19 coverage, as they have refused to sign the required insurance certificate for a retirement visa application in Thailand. The conversation reveals mixed experiences regarding insurance documentation acceptance, with some individuals successfully using similar letters while others were required to obtain Thai-specific insurance policies. It emphasizes that acceptance can depend on the embassy or consulate and individual officers. Ultimately, many advise verifying the documentation requirements and potentially obtaining local insurance that meets Thai standards.

So heres the update - the US DC Thai Embassy would NOT accept our official letter from BCBS so we had to buy Thai insurance that gave us exactly what we needed in 15 minutes. Go figure.

you're going to use that for your Primary Health Care coverage as well? Or did you just want to get to be CBS for the covid-19 coverage. I've have found BCBS federal employee package to be excellent for use in Thailand. I don't know if you have that one or something else.

not sure yet. BCBS is great coverage but we needed to get insurance for the certificate which is crazy. So we don’t know yet.

I am in the same boat and sorry to hear that for both of us. How long of a covid insurance policy did you get? I noticed the minimum is 30 days, but I don't know if you need more with a one-year retirement visa do you need a whole year of covid-19 insurance when you come to Thailand?

we got one year. Will drop blue cross blue shield. Cost one thousand each. Cheaper than BCBS.

what’s funny but not really is the DC embassy didn’t even accept the Thai insurance docs. Now we have to wait a few more days for the specific doc to be signed by three officials at the Thai insurance company. But at least they will do it. They said 1500 applications for insurance and this is the first that requires the certificate itself. Well we will wait and give them what they want.

A friend of mine used a letter like that a few months ago and it was accepted, but it probably depends on which embassy/consulate you're dealing with, and perhaps even the individual officer who adjudicates your application.

I submitted a letter from BCBS with them sharing we are fully covered and also have $100k in covid specific coverage BUT they wouldn’t sign the Thai required certificate. Waiting to hear if they accept it.

hi, do you still have the Thai required certificate? I can't find it on the website of the Thai Embassy USA. Would you be willing to send me a pdf or photo of it? Thanks!

They are very picky try to find a local or state rep.. We had to go that route with GEHA(government employee health administration) you MUST have 3 names and signatures on the foreign insurance form as well had a letter stating you have $100,000.00 in covid coverage..

PM me if you need help...
