A warning to anyone using Wise or thinking of Wise. Their wonderful AI assistant just told me a flat out lie to get me to deposit money. My account was restricted about a week ago. They held my money and did not transmit in. Then they returned it. So today I go to wise to transfer about 85k baht. I see no notice of restriction. So to double check I open chat and ask is my account restricted. No says the AI assitant, I have checked and there is no restriction. So I do the transfer. Then it flashes up your account is restricted. They have taken the money out of the bank but not sending it. So I ask to speak to a human. Their response, hard luck. The AI assistant got it wrong we can not tell you how long we will hold your money or when we will send it on. In the space of a week thats nearly 200000 baht they have grabbed. Think how many others they are doing it to and earning interest on short term deposits. I suggest everybody switches to Remitly or something else. You simply cannot trust Wise anymore. Even a request to find out how long a restriction lasts is met with a shrug.....its another team, might be ten days, might be weeks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports a serious issue with their Wise account, stating that despite being told by the AI assistant that their account was not restricted, they found that it was actually restricted after attempting a large transfer. They express frustration over the mishandling of their funds and suggest that others consider switching to different services like Remitly. The discussion includes mixed experiences from other users about Wise, highlighting both positive and negative experiences, with some suggesting using AI wisely and being cautious with large transactions. Key themes include user trust, the effectiveness of customer service, and emerging issues with banking regulations.
I’ve been using Wise for years. Never had a problem like that. I have had issues with them telling me a transfer would only take seconds and then end up taking days. But lately it’s often the opposite. They might say it’s going to take a week but after I send it, it changes to a day or two.
When you use your own bank or a specialist like Wise to send funds internationally it usually involves several banks along the way and your money passes between them before it is finally sent to your local bank. Any one of those banks could flag the transaction and question it leading to delays in completing the transfer. All out of the control of your bank or Wise who initiated the transfer. The money will either be returned or make it to the final destination. The sender can raise a trace to see where it is blocked and for what reason, this can help release the funds.
I had similar issues with them a few months back, I kicked up about it then after about ten days all was resolved and they gave me without asking compensation of £250. Everyone has problems from time to time, how you deal with them is the defining factor (the issue was changes in thai banking laws)
Paul Green i have one friend. And that was a mistake. I cant be arsed to remove them. I use whats app for friends. Even then , reluctantly not all of us like to have our lives for everyone to see. Peer pressure to accept friends leads us all to a wholly digital life. get enough of that without adding to it. I dont like talking on the phone either. Nothing suspicious about that. I spent nearly four hours off and on the phone to Wise. That was enough thanks. And I have better things to do that detail the minutae of my life or be interested in others. And as for all the people posting ''its fine for me.''....I have made many transfers with wise, but it only needs one or two important ones to go wrong and thats too many. After many many transfers to the same bank acc. They suddenly flag it up and suspend my account and say it may take weeks to resolve. Imagine self funding in hospital and wise suddenly stop a transfer for an operation, or for a house purchase or for a car or building etc etc etc. Its fine until it goes wrong. But it should not go wrong...no change of address, no change of phone number, no change of payment method and no change of recipient. So why the hell suspend it? Thats after many similar payments on the same days every month for years. It makes no sense.
I have made several transactions with Wise this month for the purchase of a new car and had no problems at all. Everything was deposited correctly into my Thai bank account at the scheduled time.
The problem i have with Wise is it's taking 2 to 4 days to transfer 25,000 baht I am useing same US bank and same Thai bank last year only minutes to transfer now days
Tim Poplin Agreed. Same here. Sent 10k twice in last month and got there next day. Now sent 5k, same recipient and they said money will be there Thursday. Like WTF? It use to be just seconds.
What I’ve noticed recently is Thai Banks have lost all common sense sometimes restricting transactions to 10,000 batt per day and that some of these companies like wise and Remitly are screwing up quite a bit…
Today I opened XE Money, requested a transfer from my Australian bank account and within 10 minutes the money was in my wife's Thai account. To be honest, I have never bothered with Wise.
Mary Rendall I did it last year when the payment of a hotel bill was blocked! I wrote several emails and talked several times with the „telephone“ support: beeing friendly and promise to check the case, but for several weeks nothing happens! I have the impression the hotline is installed mainly to appease dissatisfied customers!
Would check you have sending and receiving bank details CORRECT.
As, receiving in Thailand and incorrect details will be rejected. This also includes your name on your Thai bank account, is the same as the details you have entered into Wise.
And if you follow the procedures as the tell you to do then no problems.
NEVER had an issue. Oh sorry only once and that was when I made the mistake of sending the money first from home bank and then going onto wise to do transaction. It does not work that way
The service and support at Wise stinks - always has. It operates a no frills product, with pricing and speed as it’s USP, you want anything else, forget it.
I've been using Wise at least 5 years and regularly transfer thousands each month. Never had a hiccup. I needed to confirm my address in Thailand and accomplished it with a human in 30 minutes.
Never had a problem with them and ive got well over a million baht sitting with now in my account. Transfer $$$ every month to my daughter and she has in less than 5 mins
I never had a problem witth WISE, I use them from the times when they were still called "Transferwise". I send large sums of money from my home bank account to my own Thai bank account. Since the sender name and the receiver name are identical, there never has been any issue
I have had my account restricted now for over 2mths for a 565K baht transfer from
My home country, they demanded 6mths of bank statements, my last Tax return, invoice from my conveyancer, they asked for my Passport again as well.
I flat out refused, they couldn’t tell me where my data was stored and for how long, with all the information they wanted, if there was a hacking data breach, my information could be used to get credit in my name for which I would be liable.
I have had my Wise account for over 7 years and not had an issue… until I did ( A.I. Bots flagging accounts for what they deem is a risk transaction )
I had sent the same amount from my home country to my Kasikorn account ( both in my name- exact same details ) and had successfully transferred over 1.8M K in previous 3 mths.
My account remains suspended till I provide them with my Tax Return and other documents…
Von Steiglitz well, here we go, I guess the two of us did not write about the same thing. . . . . . I do not have a physical WISE account with money in it. I just log-in and use WISE for a transfer from my home bank to my Thai bank - done via a free SEPA transfer to the Belgian account that WISE is using. I am a registered WISE user, but I do not have a WISE account
I, as many comments on here, have never had any problems with Wise and I know many people with the same story. Is this one of those fake news posts to generate comments for monetary gain??!!
Mike Smith i use wisebquite regular transferred 5k 10k GBP no problems at all. Unlike other horror stories I've heard. This story sounds a bit suss to me!
yes wise used to work fine for me. I have transferred the best part of a million pounds using wise. But this time its screwed me, and what is worse and most dangerous is that their AI assitant...flat out lied. As they roll out more an more AI where does that leave us? Its only 5k pounds, but it could have been the quarter of a million I have transferred on a couple of occasions.
Mavis Richards I did double check....it was a flat out lie. If you cannot trust them to tell the truth whats the point? I have used Wise for years. But the last week or so its gone haywire...and dont forget they told no one about switching to Kasikorn. Every change they make makes it worse. 'Short answer: From copliot at least that works.
''Users have been angered by several recent Wise (formerly TransferWise) rule, policy, and procedural changes — especially those tied to stricter regulatory compliance, altered payment flows, and disruptive API/UX updates. These changes have led to account freezes, more verification demands, broken integrations, and more cumbersome transfers.''
Mavis Richards yep, most sensible people do this for any large transaction, but definitely if he'd already been restricted and was concerned about it 😅
