What’s the best way to send money transfer to a thai bank while living in US

Having problems because the thai debit card has expired and your not allowed to renew over the phone can you do it directly too your account? Is there a new app iam unaware of ,

Thanks
Answer summary
When looking to send money to a Thai bank while residing in the US, several options are recommended by users: Remitly and Wise are particularly noted for their reliability and ease of use. Remitly is praised for quick transfers at low fees, while Wise offers competitive exchange rates and user experience. Many users suggest checking with your US bank for international wire transfers directly into your Thai bank account, requiring the Swift code and account details. However, some users caution about the complications that may arise from sending consecutive larger amounts due to regulatory scrutiny. Overall, various services like MoneyGram and XE are also mentioned as alternatives, highlighting a range of options for money transfers.

Many people experience larger fees and poor offered exchange rates, slow clearance from thier banks compared to most of the money transfer companies.

Between Wise and Remitly; from my experience over the past 20+ years. I'd give Wise 5 out of 10; Remitly a 9+ out of 10.

If you already have a Thai account your USA bank can do an international wire transfer. Check to see if they have a maximum limit and what their fee is though. Luckily my bank has neither so I transfer money when I'm in the USA and when I'm in Thailand and need to top up my Thai account. You just need your Thai bank account number their address and SWIFT code.

If you have an account in Thailand you send it to New York Bangkok Bank with your account number here. It will be there the next day.

Have you considered a Swift transfer direct from your USA bank to your Thai Bank? Otherwise, look into WISE.

I have used Remitly and Xe ,yes they are cheaper but the rate is never as good as Wise.

I transfered £4000 to buy a car it would of cost £70 more with the Xe and Remitly even though there charges were less the exchange was rubbish.

I was using western union until they stopped allowing transfers to Thailand and likely other foreign countries. I'm using moneygram now and it's great once you become comfortable with it. Transfers are there typically in just a few minutes directly to the bank there and the fees are less than western union was charging.

Western Union canceled my account, I tried to clear it but you find yourself talking to poor help desks Iin Ecuador with hopeless English language skills. I just walked away, found another company. Currently use Ria. Only problem is recently the local thai banks stopped servicing these transfers for cash pickup and have to drive to the major town 40kn away.

That's what happened to me with the same result when trying to deal with them on the phone. Very poor language skills and they suggested that I try to work it out online. I took a brief tour of their online help desk with even less assistance than I got on the phone which was absolutely nothing. I'm using moneygram now and while it took a little time to get comfortable with it's pretty easy to navigate fairly quickly. I last used it about an hour ago. 😁

You might want to look into moneygram. Money is sent directly to the recipient's bank and can be withdrawn from an atm within minutes of the transfer.

Thanks, I’m waiting for them to figure it out and shut me down, it’s crazy, Im not sure why you can’t send money to yourself in Thailand from the US

If you continue having issues with western union you might want to start using moneygram. It's a little different than western union but it's not difficult to get comfortable with and I haven't had any issues with them. It's worth looking into.

I wouldn't use Wise. I was sending my girlfriend small denominations of money. They suspended my account because they said it was suspicious activity. You can appeal the decision, but I never heard anything back. I switched to Remitly and it has been flawless.

Christopher Arden Harper i had that happen when I sent consecutive larger amounts to build the 400kbht in my Thai bank. I answered the questions and transfer went thru quickly. I'm in Oz and the money transfers get flagged if there's a possibility of money laundering. It's not about which company u use. It's government regulations they are forced to comply with or else.

Tell your USA bank you want to do an international wire transfer. You will need the swift code from your Thai bank.

Greg Alexander I'm not sure why so many people think this. I just did the comparison using the current exchange rates from Wise and Bangkok Bank. The effective rate for Wise is 32.014 on $1K and 32.063 on $5K. The BBL Swift rate is 32.28, better than Wise's effective rate. On a $5K transfer I get more money using Swift, after the fees, than I do using Wise.

Albert Pezzuto while a SWIFT direct transfer from a US bank to a Thai bank account does not cost a lot in fees, however the EXCHANGE RATE is terribly bad. You get a much better exchange rate when you use WISE, Revolut, Western Union or Remittly. Your advice is nice - it is the EASIEST way to get the transfer done, but it also is the most expensive way

Paddy Kan I do Swift transfers for large amounts from the US all the time. The maximum charge is 500 baht regardless of how much I transfer. For large transfers the effective exchange rate is better than the effective rate from Wise because the fees are capped at 500 baht.
