Hello, I’m leaving in a week and still don’t have my tourist visa.

I’ve called, sent emails and NOTHING!

Any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An individual is concerned about not receiving their Thai tourist visa a week before their departure from Canada with a Portuguese passport. They have attempted to contact the embassy without success. Community members suggest potential solutions such as checking spam folders, contacting the embassy via Facebook, and considering visa exemption policies for Portuguese citizens, who may be able to enter Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days. Some shared their experiences with the e-visa process and led to discussions about inconsistencies between embassies and the importance of submitting applications early.

DC only took 7 working days.

Thai embassy in Canada requires proof of residence. So either citizenship or permanent residence in Canada in order to apply.

What country is your passport. Most Western countries (North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand) can get a Visa Exempt stamp when they arrive (just need your passport, the hotel reservation and return flight out of Thailand within 30(?) days?

Some other countries have 'Visa on arrival' where you pay for a visa when you get to Thailand (same/similar requirements of passport, hotel, return flight, maybe fewer days allowed.)

Other countries you need a get a visa from your own country (or maybe an embassy not in Thailand, but can't say for sure.) If this is what you are required to do, then all your requirements will have to be met before you even get the Visa.

Good luck

looks like Portuguese citizens are in the 'visa exempt' class, so for a 30 day visit (might be 45 days now, not sure if that's still in effect, but they'll give you a stamp good until the date you have on your return ticket) all you need is a valid passport (at least 60 days before expiration) and a return ticket (be prepared to give the address of where you will be staying as well)

I called the embassy in Ottawa and they said I needed it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We missed our deadline as well after 5 weeks of waiting. They will not issue after you left the country (even though in our case we would only enter Thailand 2 weeks later).

I don’t understand this.
Sonja *******
@Diana *******
what do you not understand? They can take a long long time and they refuse to issue the visa once you leave the country where you requested it, in our case France.

@Sonja ******
Happens to many people.

If it's thailand your going to, you will automatically get your visa as you go through customs, no paperwork nothing, just hand over your passport at customs than they hand it back and you got a 30 day visa, it's that easy.
Roberto *********
@Garry *******
You don't get a visa and it's nothing to do with customs. I think you'll find it's immigration who give a free entry stamp, not a visa. Never mind, you've a lot to learn
Bob *******
London took 1 week

Pity OP does not answer/post anymore. It happens many times 🙄

Looks like you're going to have to visit a neighboring country for 5 minutes
Bob *********
Check your junk mail folder it may have gone in there. I seem to remember when I did mine you can track the progress of it on line using your log in

Thai immigration in a nutshell. No consistency between embassies 😅

Try contacting them through Facebook as they seem to find that more important than emails.
Brandon ************
@Steve ******
immigration is a different government agency than embassies and consulates.
Incognia **********
Foreign ministry can find solution call them.And give your information to them.They call embassy for you

E visa is very good, but must do everything right.. somtimes email from Visa office go in spam.. not inbox.

Aren't you entitled to visa exempt for 1 month, with possibility to extend for 1 more for 1900 THB?

Anyway, I needed 2+1 months, applied on Sunday via eVisa, got it issued on Wednesday, ie. T+3, embassy in Prague works really fast 😁 Visa process is handled by your local Thai embassy, not in Bangkok.
Seanos **********
Going on 5 weeks now and same.

This evisa process is shit
Kim *********
@Seanos *********
actually not shit but opinions differ of course
Brandon ************
@Seanos *********
the visa is processed by your local embassy or consulate. If you have a problem then it's with them. Evisa is a million times better than the old process of having to mail your passport to the embassy and hope it makes it there and back.
Seanos **********
@Brandon ***********
maybe depends on what country you're from.

Did you apply through Ottawa?
Seanos **********
@Brandon ***********
it's been over 10 years that I've been visiting Thailand so this is my experience of the process.

i used to be able to show up at a consulate almost anywhere in the world that i was posted and get a visa within a 48hour period, in fact, at the London Embassy, i could get a 6 month multi entry in the space of 2 weekdays.

This is my second time applying for a 6 month multi entry using the online process.

The first time took 22 days and they gathered a tremendous amount of data on me including financial statements and a detailed planned itinerary.

This time, they required far less documentation from me plus $240 CAD because that's the Embassy assigned to handle applications from my country.

This is a service that people are paying for yet I have not had any feedback other than it could be expected to be completed within 25 working days from the date of the application.

I have had to cancel flights and accommodation which have put me further out of pocket. I have since replanned my trip to visit Vietnam which is lovely as well, even had a Halong bay cruise and sampled the Weasel coffee but each day hope that I'll have a visa tomorrow so that i could get some part of my break on my favourite island scuba diving and enjoying the serenity.

So yeah, everyone's experience is different.

Mine is shit

I applied for the e-visa Friday 10th November and today the 12th I got my approval. So maybe I got lucky 🙂
Andreas *********
well, if it does not arrive in your Email-box until the day of departure, just fly without a visa (but watch out that the Airline can ask you for an onward-travel proof within the 30 days you get stamped in upon a visa-exempt entry). In case the visa arrives at a later date while you are already in Thailand, NOTE that ou can activate the visa any time with a simple "border run"
Chris ******
@Andreas ********
"NOTE that you can activate the visa any time with a simple "border run." Andreas: Wouldn't the border agent notice that the evisa was issued AFTER the holder was already stamped in?
Nongnuch ********
@Chris *****
it actually doesn't matter. The Tourist Visa is valid for 3 months after issue date and can be used for one entry, upon which you will receive a 60 days stay permit, no matter from where you enter from
Roberto *********

Which embassy or consulate did you apply through?

Some of them process applications based on the departure date and send the visa 2-3 days before the flight you submitted.

I've seen people have success with sending a Facebook message to the embassy. Try finding them on Facebook and sending only one message that includes everything needed to respond to you.

What your question is, your full name, passport number, application number, when you're leaving etc. If you send a long message or multiple messages they may get confused or just ignore it
