Hi I hope someone can help.

My partner had an accident was in hospital and given a NOT fit to fly note until the 24th Jan with a follow up appointment on the 26th of Jan to hopefully get a fit to fly note

I mistakenly thought our visas expired on the 28tg of Jan but I have just checked and they expire on the 24th.

We are due to fly home on the 28th hopefully

But I was wondering what is the best options for us as we will be over staying .

But also the Not fit to fly is only for my partner

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a potential visa overstay in Thailand because their partner is recovering from an accident and is not fit to fly until January 28th, while their visa is set to expire on January 24th. They have received advice from the community regarding options such as applying for a medical extension based on hospital documentation, paying a fine for the overstay at the airport, and emphasizing the need to communicate their situation at immigration. Ultimately, they managed to obtain a 7-day extension without issues.

As Brandon said, any advice depends upon your current stay, whether you’ve had any extensions and your passport. However, most likely, since you didn’t mention any extensions and assuming you have a passport with fairly generous privileges, you can simply go to immigration (he must go in person as well) and get an extension. If you have already had an extension, then you’d need to get a medical extension with documentation from the hospital.

The first step is to check the Thai immigration website to see the policies for extensions for your passport.

I'm sure they will understand ☑️

you can get a "medical extension" if you take a statement of the hospital to Immigration
Cathy ********
I think there is a team that come round in the hospital from the visa place fir you to extend ?ask at reception??.
Emma ********
Go immigration with proof from the hospital and pay the fine ,you may have to leave straight away though

It's been 500bths per day the last 20 yrs

No grief, I've done it loads of times.

When you pass through Immigration explain your position Take documents If need be pay the fine, no big deal
Rene ******
Maybe you can get a 7 days extension denied stamp? The 7 days start at the day of application!

@Rene *****
what do I need to do to get this
Rene ******
@Jonesx *********
go to immigration with the papers you also need for regular extension and the medical papers.
@Brandon ***********
what do you think?
Steven *******
@Jonesx *********
Go to Immigration just before your stamp expires, asking for another extension. You won’t get the extension, but they will give you 7 days to leave the country.
David **********
Don't worry just pay the fine at the airport it's only 4 days you'll be fine

overstaying is never a good idea.

ok amazing so if we go tomorrow and just show the medical documents and show our flight on the 28th could we pay the fine for the 4 days is there no point going to the immigration tomorrow should we just do this when we go to the airport ,

You hear so many stories about people getting arrested in just worried and not sure what the best thing to do is
Paul ***********
@Jonesx *********
why don't you do the right thing and just go to immigration today and get a medical extension ❓... You will have the paperwork from the hospital.. It's a no Brainer... 🙄
Graham ******
@Paul **********
Correct info., will probably have an Extension denied, 7 days to leave Thailand stamp" but remains legal and no risk of deportation before surrender at the airport
Ju ********
@Paul **********

We already have a booking until the 28th the insurance booked it we have been here since the 20th so hopefully that won’t be an issue as they already check us in
Joel *******
@Jonesx *********
just beware that hotels are supposed to check your immigration status now and will refuse you if you overstay, hospital notice or not. Try and avoid staying anywhere new after the 24th to avoid any trouble here.

The insurance have booked out flight home for the 28th which means we would have overstayed by 4 days ,

Can I just pay a fine at the airport and we show the medical exstention the doctor gave to us or are we going to get into trouble
Paul ***********
@Jonesx *********
why would you puposely overstay when this can be resolved so easily.. You have the grounds for a medical extension.. Use it
Todd *********
@Jonesx *********
you would simply pay the 500 baht per day fine at the airport if you chose
Steven *******
@Jonesx *********
I wouldn’t want an overstay stamp in my passport. It could cause problems in the future especially since you did an extension and border bounce.

Sorry we did a boarder run and then extended that for 30 days we have a uk passport
Graham ******
If your partner is hospitalised get them to give you a letter for a medical extension and take it tomorrow to get an extension and a normal extension for yourself if you are indeed still on a Visa extry stamp.
David ******
If he or she can walk.

Just get on the plane and fly out

Did you reported the accident to the IO as it’s happening, or immediately after, on a timely manner?

My friends were in the same situation, reported the incident and both of them were fine. That’s about 10 years ago.

no what’s the IO I haven’t reported it to anyone
Jonesx **********

No I wasn’t aware that I needed to

I was thinking just to go to the immigration tomorrow show them all the medical documents and explain the situation as I’m not sure what else to do
Paul ***********
@Jonesx *********
you should talk to the hospital as some hospitals have liason officers who will facilitate things like this with immigration... Rather do this sooner rather than later..in case they want other documents from the hospital

What stamp are you currently on? If it's a visa exempt or tourist visa you can extend for 30 days at your local immigration office but you can only do this once. Otherwise your partner can talk to the hospital about getting a medical extension if he's unable to fly, not sure they would include you but would be worth asking if you can claim to be required to care for him
Todd *********
@John *********
agreed and they will likely extend the same to her as caregiver
Brandon ************
You don't say what passport you have, what visa you are currently on, if you've already gotten an extension, or give any information that will actually let us help you.

@Brandon ***********
Are you new to the Internet? You’re supposed to guess these things. Nobody has the time to give you details about their situation.
