TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing an issue with their Non-O visa expiring on December 26, 2023, and not having maintained the required 800,000 THB in their bank account for three months post-visa issuance to qualify for a one-year extension. They plan to leave for Malaysia to secure a new tourist visa but are concerned that immigration might inform them they are still valid until the end of December 2024. Several commenters suggest consulting a visa agent and clarify that leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit will invalidate the current Non-O visa.

Go visit an agent with a friend at immigration in a mountain area, they are always looking to help out a grandpa for a small fee.

From my understanding, he went to immigration to get a one year extension but since he didn't keep the 800k for two months after the visa, immigration would not extend the visa. Immigration advised him to leave Thailand and re-enter on a tourist visa do he could start over with a 3 month Non O and then a one year extension.

As long as he has the 800k in his bank, he could do this himself, no agent needed.

Question: which bank? An account in thai bank or in his country is ok?

No problem if you are on a Non-Immigrant-Visa... or if you use an agent.

I will try by myself. I have visa O retired and in Thaïland since 2 weeks.

Thanks!

if he is applying within Thailand, the 800k must be in a Thai bank.

Your old visa will die when you leave Thailand.

Definitely get a visa agent

@Nicholas ********
you need an agent

Get an agent cheaper than visa run..

@Martyn **********
The visa can only be cancelled by leaving the country. A agent wont be able to help cancel the visa without you physically leaving the country.

@CjandBrigitte *********
but his goal isn't to cancel a visa, its to stay in Thailand? An agent can helpbget the non O converted without money..

@Martyn **********
26 December when the visa expires immigration will be closed. So if you wait until they open you will be on overstay. Safest, do the border bounce, that cancels the visa and then return and you will then be stamped in on a 60 day tourist visa.

just to clarify, when re-entering, that isn’t a tourist visa, but visa exemption. To get a tourist visa, you have to apply for it via the embassy.

Correct

If you don't have a re-entry permit leaving Thailand will cancel your Non-O.
