What should I do if I have a tight window for my non-O visa extension application in Thailand?

My 90 day non-immigrant O retirement visa expires on Monday 19 Jan. That's the stamp date.

Day 60 since my 800k baht transfer into Kasikorn bank will be on Friday 16 Jan.

My plan is to go Friday morning to the bank with my bank book and get the necessary documents, then head straight to immigration in Chiang Mai with those and other necessary documents, etc, and apply for a 1 year extension.

If denied I will ask for an extra 7 days to sort things out. If denied the extra 7 days, I will travel to Laos via Chiang Rai on Saturday/Sunday. Come back on a visa exemption and apply again for a 1 year visa extension (or a 90 day visa if that's required first).

It's a tight window. Assuming my documents are in order, is there a reasonable chance of success? Or should I just plan to leave the country and come back and handle things with less time pressure?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on applying for a one-year extension of their non-immigrant O retirement visa, which expires soon. They plan to gather necessary bank documents and apply at the Chiang Mai immigration office. Community comments emphasize the importance of timing (noting a specific date requirement for the bank transaction to count), ensuring all documentation is ready, and caution against relying on a 7-day extension should their application be denied. It’s advised to confirm requirements with immigration ahead of time and that the application should ideally be submitted before the visa expiration date.

You say Non-O and 800k so you are going for an Extension of Stay based on retirement/over 50 but do you have Thai family i.e. wife or legally the father of a Thai child?

they were asking because if you are married to a thai or have thai children you can get a 60 day extension based on visiting thai family.

You're pretty much stuck applying Monday and hoping it'll work OR running on overstay to try again after that πŸ™‚

If the money arrived in your thai bank on the 17th November you can't apply for the extension until the 17th January (it's date to date not 60 days). That means the 19th is the only day you can apply. If you have everything required by immigration then you should be OK, it's only if you have missed something that you will have a problem so I'd suggest you go to immigration in advance and get their handout of requirements and make sure you tick them all off

I think this is best advice, check in with immigration first to confirm what's needed then plan accordingly

yes, 17 Nov, so I would have to do all this on 19 January, which is the date stamped in my passport. I thought I had to be out of the country before that date, i.e. the 18th. Won't I already be overstayed 1 day by the 19th? In any case, I think going to immigration on Friday the 16th and showing all my documents to make sure everything is in order is good advice. Thanks!

You should be able to get the bank letter one day during the week before Monday 19th at least that one thing less to do on Monday morning

Regarding the date, I guess I'm fine until 11:59 PM on the 19th, the date stamped in my passport. I was confused about that.

this is also important, that 2 month seasoning is gonna mean you can't apply until Monday the 19th, so it'll need to work OR you will run on overstay (at 500baht a day) to try again another day <- which isn't the end of the world and people do run on short overstays because of document/paperwork issues

Just FYI. 7 days wouldn't help, as it is not an extension anymore (that is "application denied, to leave kingdom" stamp) and you have no other choice than leaving Thailand once. With that 7-day stamp, you cannot apply for the new extension anyway.

this needs to be pointed out, that 7 day get out of dodge stamp isn't gonna "buy you any time" to apply for the extension on another try.

You pull it off in one go, OR you run on overstay (at 500 baht a day) and try again the next day or so.

Shouldn't have a problem applying with the timeline that you have and remember it's not 60 days it's 2 months date to date for the seasoning and that is often more than 60 days.

As long as you know the documentation you need and can get the bank letter and statement and update your bank both the day you apply you should be fine.

I wouldn't start panicking, just make sure your ducks are in a row documentation wise and you should be fine getting the extension
