What should I do if I received a wrong immigration stamp in Thailand after switching from a retirement extension to a non-B work visa?

I have been in Thailand on an extension of stay based on retirement valid until 8th October 2019 and was recently offered a job. I took all the documents to Kuala Lumpur, and applied for and received a single entry non-B work visa on 7th June. I reentered the country at Suvarnabhumi on the same day and was told that there was a mistake and that I should have cancelled my retirement extension first. Information on Thai Visa Forum however suggests though that this is automatically cancelled when you leave the country and get another type of visa. Anyway, after a bit of discussion, the immigration officer took me aside, changed some entries in the computer system and stamped me in until 4th September on the non-B. So far, so good and I now had to wait until I could apply for the full extension.

On 19th June, I went abroad again after having obtained a single use reentry permit, again at Suvarnabhumi. On returning to Bangkok on 1st July, the immigration officer overlooked the non-B and single reentry permit and stamped me in on the retirement reentry again, until 8th October. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until yesterday, where I had to apply for the work permit and extension. In theory, my retirement extension has been cancelled both by getting a non-B and by the original entry as a non-B on 7th June. My non-B stamp is marked as used and I'm currently stamped in as NON-RE until 8th October. Can I go to Suvarnabhumi somehow and get this changed, or do I need to go to Chaengwattana? If so, is there an immigration office this side of security? Or will I have to fly out to KL again to do another non-B? Anyone else had this experience?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has experienced confusion regarding their visa status after switching from a retirement extension to a non-B work visa. After receiving incorrect immigration stamps, they successfully resolved the issue by visiting Suvarnabhumi Airport, where immigration staff corrected the stamping error, confirming the validity of their non-B visa. The interactions highlight the importance of clear communication with immigration authorities.

Update from Suvarnabhumi today: I went to the airport help desk who rang immigration. I explained the problem over the phone in Thai to the immigration officer, who told me to go up to departures and wait by M24. She came out about ten minutes later, checked the passport and took it away to get the right stamp. About twenty minutes later, she came out again, with the date corrected to 4th September, a dated and signed correction, indicating the correct visa page and the single re-entry permit now cancelled. I asked about the multiple re-entry, which was not stamped "used" but she said that this was automatically cancelled when I got the non-B. Everything should now be OK and the non-B is now valid and correctly stamped. I have to say, great service by Thai immigration - credit where it's due. Thanks

As a general rule, people can stamp out on extensions of stays based on retirement, get new visa types, enter on it and not have any problem.

IF I had to guess what threw you off the rails I'd say it was because you had a valid re-entry permit with the retirement extension and didn't have an officer cancel it when you stamped out of the country (I have seen people get them marked out at passport control meaning when you stamp out on that extension you can't get stamped back in on it).

To be honest I don't know how it's gonna play out for you, BUT please let us know which location if any could resolve it for you.

The re-entry permit tied to the retirement visa was a multiple entry, and the guys at departure would assume of course that I'm going to KL for a few days for a holiday, so no reason to cancel it. I thought it became automatically void as soon as I got the non-B. I'll update you with feedback from Suvarnabhumi tomorrow, and if that doesn't work CW on Monday.

So you didn't pay any attention to the fact you were stamped in wrong until now? That's gonna be a tough fix I'm thinking..

I'd try Suvarnabhumi FIRST and see what's what, THEN if they can't sort it out try the immigration office.

You need to go to customer service at the airport and they will take you down to the immigration office.

Good Luck.
