TLDR : Answer Summary
Experiences with Jomtien Immigration indicate that obtaining a visa extension can be time-consuming, often requiring several hours. The TM30 form, which reports a foreign resident's address, is crucial; without it, applicants may face fines and delays. Some users report wait times of around 3 hours and a need for additional documentation, such as a hotel confirmation letter, while others have had quicker experiences under certain conditions. Overall, success in obtaining an extension appears dependent on having all necessary paperwork and choosing optimal times to visit.

As long as you have all the appropriate/required documentation they are actually very efficient.
Also, I always go mid-week and 2PM so I don’t deal with morning/after lunch rushes.

Again, unless you've done a TM30, you won't get one of them anymore 😂

I tried to get an extension last month. I discovered the rules are different (or enforced differently) in Jomtien. If you haven't done it the TM30 within a few days of arriving there is a fine. Also there are a couple of lines person has to go through. I decided to abandon the mission and got the extension in BKK.

Same happened to me. Paid my 1600bt. Learn for next time. ( extended same as 1 year ago. Told law came in 2 years ago? ) lol

I went last month. Took longer than it used to before TM30 (obviously). I used to be in and out in an hr / hr

for an extension before....now it takes prob 3 hours or so. No big deal.
Michael ********
You need what is mentioned above....THEN you need to copy the TM30 slip you receive and have another photo for the extension.....(Total 2 photos). If going in morning go earlyish....if afternoon they open after lunch at 13:00. Allow min 3 hours.

On the Pic it is B.C.A.....Sorry a bit confusing...

It is for all foreigners in Thailand when making an extension. A. Hotel stay......They contact Hotel (who should have registered you)...or B. You are in short stay and not a hotel....they contact Landlord or Owner......or C. Long Term stay with a contract. You as the Housmaster or Possessor of the property lodge it yourself (recommended).

They have not moved the goal posts since it came more strongly into affect 18 months - 1 year ago and they started enforcing it.
It seems they are moving the goalposts all the time but I will keep you updated to the situation when I go to jomtien in the morning

If you really want to read the rule, sections 37 and 38 of the Immigration act has all the information there for you.
Ron *******
Yes they do BUT if they don't, YOU get fined and refused the TM30. The onus is on both of you to report and be reported. I'm simply trying to help you be prepared. I.know exactly how this works. I'm not here to argue who is responsible. It makes no difference to me if people spend 2 days of there time doing this or not BUT if your paperwork isn't correct, you will be backwards and forwards until it is. You simply won't get an extension until it is.
As I've said, the image I posted is what immigration have been handing out to people.
I had a look on the net and apparently if your a hotel resident then the hotel has responsibility to inform immigration of your stay where as if your in a condo or villa then the owner has responsibility to in form immigration and the occupant has to fill out a tm30 form I believe
Ron *******
Ok I've found it but as I said, perhaps it's changed again.
Ron *******
Colin, then try that but they was asking for the letter of confirmation too. I had a copy of the recent notice but I can't find it.
. I actually own my Condo ( and just paid fine as I new nothing about TM30. Did you download a form? Where in immigration do you go to ? Think they have just started to enforce it.
they said I just need the business card I’ve got everything else so fingers crossed it won’t be a problem
Ron *******
Colin you need to take a letter of confirmation from the hotel as proof of address and there business card plus of course your passport and TM6 landing card.
David *******
That's true ! 👍

If your going there to extend a tourist visa and haven't been reported on a TM30 then yes, your in for a long day. In that case, get the TM30 done first or you'll be lining up 4 times.

Amazing story that you are coming with. I have personally come there for the last 10 years, and never had any trouble, and it is always nice to come there, and the visa and extensins are always made quickly. So what you have heard, is maybe some not so nice friends , who have problems in every single Immigration. If you follow the rules, there are NO PROBLEMS, but not following the Thai rules, can give big problems. Not only in Jomtien Immigration, but all over Thailand.

huge difference between Jomtien and Bangkok.. A person can have a problem in one and not the other..
