Hi all, my wife and I are looking to come in August. It has been suggested that a Non-O would be a good option (retirement). My question is I have an event in mid-October and another in mid-November outside of Thailand for a week that I must attend. Will my leaving after 2 months and returning a week later affect the Visa status?
Answer summary
The user is concerned about the implications of leaving Thailand for a week during a visa stay on a Non-O Retirement Visa. The conversation reveals that leaving Thailand before the initial 90-day stay period expires will void the stay permit unless a re-entry permit is obtained. It's suggested that the user could opt for a Non-OA visa to avoid these issues, as it would allow a longer-term stay with multi-entry options. Key points include the requirement of having 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account before applying for a 12-month extension and the different regulations associated with the Non-O and Non-OA visas.

Philip Gornall why buy a single re-entry permit for 1000 Baht for a 90-days stay permit, just to gain 2 more weeks of stay upon returning, when he can re-enter visa-exempt for free, for 30 more days? Why would you spend 1000 Baht on a single re-entry permit in this situation ?

I guess you are looking at living long term in Thailand? If you arrive on a 90 day Non-O visa you get stamped in for 90 days and can extend that for a further 12 months at your local immigration office. But for you there are a couple of logistical issues to work round. You can apply for the 12 month extension when you have 30 days (45 in a few places) or less left on that 90 day stamp but in order to do so you must also have had a minimum of 800k baht in a Thai bank account for 2 months. If you leave in that initial 90 days you'll need a re-entry permit and also to be back in time to apply for the 12 month extension of stay else you will need to apply for another 90 day Non-O visa before you return to Thailand. If you leave Thailand after getting the 12 month extension of stay you will also need a re-entry permit to keep that 12 month stamp alive

you could buy a single re-entry permit for 1000 THB for the 90-days stay permit. It will keep the stay permit alive for one exit and re-entry. But you will not gain any more days - the re-entry permit only gets you stamped in for the remainder of your initially stamped 90-days stay permit

on a Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa you will get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. If you leave Thailand after two months (before the 90-days stay permit expires) the stay permit will become void. You would need to apply again, or re-enter visa-exempt and will (should the visa-exemption get set back from 60 to 30 days) get stamped in for 30 days. For this entry you would (probably) need to show the three famous proofs: booked accomodation for a few nights, 20,000 THB in cash (can be in another currency) and an onward travel proof out of Thailand within the first 30 days

a Non-O and a Non-OA are not the same thing. A Non-O visa gets you stamped in for 90 days and then you need to get a 12 month extension of stay in Thailand by meeting the immigration office requirements. A Non-OA is a 12 month visa with multiple entries and requires insurance, medical certificates and police checks

Don Lockman a Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa will get you stamped in for a full year. It comes with a multi re-entry permit included - this means, that during the 1-year period of the visa-validity, you can exit and re-enter as many times as you wish. Be careful: do not confuse the stay permit stamp date with the date of the visa validity
