ED Visa Extensions

Does anyone know the current cost of the 90 day check-in for Education Visa holders? I'm looking at starting a 12 month visa in the next 30 days and have been weighing up the study options over the weekend

Some schools are saying it's 1200THB if I attend class. Others are saying its 5000THB if I don't attend class (so no test every 90 days). Some are even saying its 5000THB regardless of attending class or being tested.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the costs associated with the 90-day check-in for Education Visa holders in Thailand, with varying reports from different schools ranging from 1,200 THB for attending classes to 5,000 THB for those not attending. Participants share personal experiences and advice regarding extensions and testing by the Ministry of Education (MOE), highlighting the discrepancies in information and the challenges faced by genuine students compared to those utilizing schools as visa mills. Ultimately, the emphasis remains on finding legitimate schools and understanding the official visa extension process.

I was recently talking to a guy who told me he's on a student visa, and studying. I asked him how it works (curious to hear his answer) and he said 1,900฿ for a 60-day extension and nearly 5,000฿ for 90 days. He said this as if it were the official policy, and he had no idea the law is 1,900฿ for an extension of up to 90 days.

There are more than a few schools which have that "deal" worked out with the powerz-that-b.. :/ Some don't even need to go to the immigration office to get their 90 day extensions, just give the passport & money to the school and pick it up a few days later. :(

, Hope you don’t mind me crashing your post. I do not have a Visa question yet. I am exploring the ED Visa option, and I am looking for input on Thai schools. I reside in US and will be heading to Thailand later this year. Specifically,

and
@Robert ******
, sounds like you have actual experience with Thai schools. Do you mind if I message you directly with a couple of quick questions?

Thanks!

Another thing that "some" schools do to get around the testing at the MOE at the 8th month is to get paperwork for you to go get a 90 day single entry ED visa, then get you paperwork to get extensions of stays up to the 8th month. At that time rather than send you to the MOE for testing so you can continue the extension process in-country at the immigration office, they get more paperwork and send you out of the country to pull another 90 day single entry ED visa, then do extensions on that for the rest of the time. It circumvents the MOE testing because you're NOT in country for the 8th month extension. :O

Hi
@T**
, attending and learning is the plan, however paying 5k every 3 months where it could be 1,900 or less is the reason for asking.

You get 90 day extensions with prolanguage school, my class mates and I just got our 90 day

IF you're actually attending class, and turn in all the required documentation (attendance sheets, previous lessons studied, MOE & the school's paperwork etc) there's a good chance you'll get at least a 60 day extension.

I know a LOT of students in "real" thai language schools and very few of them get 90 day extensions. Most people are locked down to 60 day extensions of stays for the duration of the year.

, & Harry, the reason the ED visa / extension system for studying thai at a private school came off the rails is exactly because schools sell ed visas and extensions as a way to stay here and NOT study anything. >:(

Those are nothing more than visa mill schools.😡 That's what hurts real students and it's the reason that no matter where you go to school in Bangkok most students get only a 60 day extension on their ED visa each time instead of a 90 day one.

It's also the reason the MOE limited the amount of time you can get extensions of stays on an ED visa before you hafta go either get tested at the MOE or go outta the country and pull another ED visa to start over.

There is no down side to actually attending a school the required hours and learning to speak thai to the thaiz.

More important is to find a good school where you actually learn what you want. If you look at school offers who claim you do not have to attend classes, stay on a Tourist Visa.

as said Extension Of Stay is 1900 Thb, most Ed Visa are only for 90 days and than need extensions of stay with max period 1 year.

Yes, that's the plan. I'm not interested in the 5k for no lessons or tests.
