unusual case asking for advice

Name and Surname change - holder of One Year Extension of Stay ( Retirement) and Multiple Re-entry permit.

I am trying to hold on to old passport as long as possible ( 10 days) which has the stamps in it - and travel back to bkk and do the procedure of transferirng everything to new passport carrying new name and surname.

In case it isnt allowed to travel with the old passport which will be cancelled ( with corner cut) except for visa and entry pages. and instead travel with new passport, is that going to be smooth at entry at airport? I cant figure it out. Have asked Thai Embassy and own country Embassy in Bkk. Asking here as well if anyone has experience or insights on this.

It is usual smooth with transfer from old to new, but in this case names will be different. hence the query.

Thanks
Answer summary
The user inquires about the process of traveling with an old passport while transitioning to a new passport after a name change. They are concerned about potential issues at the airport and the transfer of their visa and re-entry permit to the new passport. Responses from the community suggest that traveling with both passports and an official name change certificate should facilitate a smooth entry, and it's advised to conduct the transfer with immigration promptly upon arrival.

Does your country's Passport Issuer (outside Thailand) or your country's Embassy inside Thailand (Bangkok) issue Embassy Letter Certifications of both old and new passports, particularly since there is a name change between old and new passports?

thanks
@Dca ****
for this! - Yes country passport issuer (outside Thailand) issues a Decree of name change indeed - but It wont have the new passport number as it wont be done yet - takes a week to have a new passport - Your question raises an important point. thankful. I will make sure the decree holds both numbers even if I have to wait a week. thank you !

People do this fairly often. If your name has changed, carry both passports plus the official name change certificate (or marriage certificate, if applicable). Thai Immigration can transfer your extension and re-entry permit to the new passport, but I'd recommend doing the transfer as soon as possible after arrival to avoid any complications.

and make sure you get the new stamp matching the validity date of your EOS of old passport at airport.

People travel with new passports all the time, and people get passports with different surnames (although name and surname change is unusual)

You shouldn't have any issue,

Present BOTH passports when you check in,

File a TDAC online under the new passport (and name)

and

present both passports to the officer when you stamp in.

They should stamp you in on the new one, make a notation you entered on an old one and then you go to your immigration office where you got your extension to and get the extension/re-entry stamps moved.
