What does everyone’s plan on this visa if they have a coup here? And don’t say it can’t happen it has.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses concerns expats may have regarding their safety and visa status during coups in Thailand. Most participants recount their experiences during past coups, emphasizing that life largely continues as normal and that the visa rules have not significantly changed. Opinions vary on preparedness, but many agree that staying away from protest areas is wise and that foreign residents are generally not targeted. Discussions also highlight how coups have affected visas and general sentiments about living in Thailand during political unrest.
You seem to have a lot anxiety. Remind me how many foreigners were harmed during the last coup? Zero? Your life will be a lot more peaceful if you stop looking at the news.
Anonymous participant you should build a bunker in the woods and prepare for the worse. I just read solar flares could hit the planet and fungus is turning people into zombies. Therapy can help with the anxiety. Best of luck with your bunker.
I’m not going to build a bunker here and I’m not living here forever. If you have nothing positive to contribute to the conversation get out of it seriously.
Anonymous participant so you aren’t even planning to be permanent resident. Definitely recommend therapy. Paranoia could be a sign of severe anxiety, PTSD or perhaps a personality disorder. Best of luck 🙏
Anonymous participant it’s a small fraction of what happens in Thailand daily life. Thailand is rich in cultural delights. If you live here long enough you appreciate the country, the people increasingly. I love this country
they are here educating themselves. They asked a question and are getting many responses from expats that have experienced this first hand. No need to be so rude.
Anonymous participant apparently also we don't care your opinion or what you think about our comment. And if you don't feel safe.. you are absolutely able to back to your hometown until what you worry about is over and when you feel safe .. you can back .Simple solution, but apparently too, you love drama ka
Anonymous participant ask also who was here during hard times before Plus What is the link to the visa !!! Will they ask you what visa you have if they want to shot you !! Last...in case you feel not safe ..s stay home and order what enough to you to eat and survive. And don't go where the chaos is so you will stay alive. This is not Africa
I dont think thailand would be unsafe under any circumstances if anything like this happened .. i have been through an even worse coup back in egypt and everything was fine .. it is gonna be bad only if people carried weapons and started fighting which isnt gonna happen in thailand i believe .. then your country will evacuate you like during covid curfew
A lot of low information commenters here. When Prayuth took over from Yingluck, visa enforcement was tightened up in lots of little ways. Investment incentives through BOI were cut back and so on. The army governments generally lean more right wing and nationalistic and like blaming problems on foreigners.
The actual coup action was a non event for 99% of Bangkokians, no shots were fired, it just happened. But I'd totally expect another army government to reconsider the DTV. DTV is a Pheu Thai program, it's an easy visa, army doesn't like Pheu Thai, and tends to make visas harder.
coups are common with Thaj history whether you know the terminology or not. If you live or base in Thailand, at least learn about its history. It’s not always perfect in Thailand, so it’s important farangs and expats and tourists not be ignore and know things change a lot here historically in politics
where ever you live on Thailand? Back then I was only on a 60day tourist visa so bit more concerning to make sure I didn't overstay. Now we have six months. Back then we took a train up to Chiang Mai and flew out to Laos. The city was so deserted it was actually pretty safe.
Anonymous participant I dont speak Thai so I was a bit slow on catching on and was in Krabi at the time... And Internet was patchy back then 😅 Made my way up to Bangkok. City was very quiet everything blew over in three weeks
Anonymous participant it’s a good point. Sorry for the ignorant replies you have received here. They would do well to consider their options too, well done for being one step ahead.
Anonymous participant 527 the irrelevance of the question is this... every democracy and dictatorship changes on a whim. Look at Republicans and Democrats in USA. Look at Labour and conservatives in UK. Look anywhere. Coup is irrelevant. Change happens. If your life depends on DTV, make plans. Make plans regardless. That's life.
Anonymous participant 527 Thailand just reversed recreational marijuana after less than two years, but everyone hear things that they cannot change this visa, but they can it could happen.
Anonymous participant the only impact it has is if you see a large group of people gathering in a street you turn around and mind your own business. Otherwise things are surprisingly normal.
