Do I need longer employment history to apply for a DTV visa in Thailand with a new remote job?

Hey everyone, I’m currently in Thailand and just got a remote job with an Australian company (starting Monday). I want to apply for the DTV visa, but I’m not sure if my work contract alone is enough or if I need to have been employed for longer. Also, does anyone know which nearby country is best to apply from?

Would appreciate any insights—thanks! 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Thailand seeks advice on applying for a DTV visa based on a new remote job contract with an Australian company. Community members suggest that a work contract should suffice if it states that remote work is allowed, and they recommend obtaining a letter from the employer to clarify this. They also discuss applying from different countries, indicating that Cambodia has been successful for others. Additionally, they caution that prior visa history may impact the application.

How long have you been in Thailand? How many visas have you held in the past, and what types?

From what I understand (though don’t quote me on this), some DTV visa applications may be rejected based on an applicant’s visa history—particularly if they have frequently used short-term visas or visa exemptions to stay in Thailand long-term, which could be seen as visa abuse.

Anonymous participant 204 thanks mate! well I've been to Thailand some times with the tourist visa exemption. 2 weeks in September, then 4 in October, 3 weeks in December and now I'm here since mid January, so 2,5 months. so in total 4 tourist exemption visas, but with a few weeks in between each visa, I've never did a one day visa run. Do you think I will have any problem? Also any recommendations on which country to so it? Perhaps Vietnam?

Anonymous participant I see a lot of success stories from Vietnam and Cambodia. So they might be your best options. Hope it works out for you man 👍

Anonymer Teilnehmer 204 the visa history has no effect on your DTV application. thats useless fearmongering. of course thats from an anonymous user 🤣🤣🤣

as I said, don’t quote me on this—I’m simply sharing my thoughts based on what others have said. I can’t claim this to be 100% factual, just as you can’t prove otherwise. I’m simply suggesting it’s best to be cautious. Additionally, applicants who submit bank statements from their Thai accounts might also raise red flags and risk rejection. Again, these aren’t my words; this is just what I’ve read from “group experts” in this group.

As long as you have the financial needs and a cover letter from your boss to go along with your work contract. Should be no problem. You are not going to have a conversation so let the paper talk for you.

Congrats on your job

If your in Thailand. We have been having good success in Cambodia. It's close it's cheap.

the best country to apply is your home country.

The contract should be enough if it’s specifically mentioned your allowed to work remotely.

Otherwise get a letter from your employer stating your allowed to work from Thailand.

there are lots of places closer to Thailand to apply for DTV 😀

Read a lot of stories about immigration asking folks why they didn’t apply in their home country.

Seems like a potential red flag for immigration officials and unnecessary trouble if it can be avoided.
