What do I need to prepare for my DTV visa application as a freelancer in Thailand?

Looking for advice on DTV visa application

I’m currently preparing to apply for the visa and could use some help. I’ve searched through past posts and found some useful info, but I’d like to hear your suggestions.

I worked as an online English teacher for the past 2 years and finished my contract at the end of February. I have payment slips and will receive the final one next week. I started a new job mid-January as a private contractor and have payslips for the past two months, plus a contract and a letter from the company.

Since I’m now a contractor, I assume I need to apply as a freelancer. Do I need to provide a portfolio (I don’t have one for this role), or is a resume enough? Also, can I submit payslips from my previous job even though I’m no longer employed there? I also have proof of the required 500k baht in my account.

Any advice or experience would be appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on applying for a DTV visa in Thailand after transitioning from an online English teaching position to a freelance contractor role. They inquire about necessary documentation such as payslips from previous employment, the need for a portfolio versus a resume, and proof of funds. Community responses emphasize the importance of having current payslips, suggest using the teaching profile initially, and clarify that maintaining funds in a Thai bank account is essential for the application.

Hi. I was told that you have to be currently working for the comapny you are using in your application. Up to date payslips. But as you are waiting for your last payslip . . . . 😃 are you still within the timeline if you apply BEFORE your final payslip arrives?

I havent worked for my online company since 2022 so I was unable to apply that way

From what I have taken from your post, Id apply quickly while you are waiting for your final payslip from the online teaching company but not sure if that would be breaking laws which I would not recommend obviously!

Im as tight as an otters pocket so losing £400 application fee would be a killer 😂

the only issue I would have is providing a company registration for the teaching job as my last day was at the end of February. So far with the new job I have I’ve received at least 4 payments since I started, and by the time I apply there should be another 2. So maybe that’ll be enough? I’m thinking explaining that I recently transitioned jobs and highlighting the payments from the teaching job

You don’t need any payslips to apply for DTV.

They are “only” interested about you having at least 500.000 Baht in a bankaccount.

You can not work with thai customers on a DTV, only customers located outside of Thailand.

I suggest you just use the teaching profile as you can show your payslips up-to-date. A job newly started or assigned is a red flag for them. You can later change your profile to freelance when you need to extend the visa.

I was debating doing this, wouldn’t I have to provide a company registration if I use the teaching job? I’m not longer employed there so it would be a bit tricky, they are a Korean company and don’t really know if I have access to those documents

Do you actually have a legal business? That will be required to show documents for.

I don't have my own business. I was hired as a contractor though, the company I'm currently employed by is legal in the US, and they have provided an employment certificate as well as business registration for my application.

You have a good grasp, now just carefully select a consulate that won't put you through the wringer. Do you have one in mind?

I'm currently in Vietnam as was thinking about applying in Hanoi

Anonymous participant you'll need an employment certificate that specifically authorizes you to work remotely in Thailand.

Gotcha! my employer has also provided this. my only concern is showing salary payments from my previous job which was my main income until a few weeks ago. So I'm thinking just explaining that I've transition jobs recently and was hired to this new company mid January. Hopefully this works out 🙏🏾

Anonymous participant there is no income requirement but you can show with previous pay slips from your previous employer that you are employed doing this kind of work. The nature of freelancing is moving from job to job
