Why was my application for a multiple Non-O visa at the Thai embassy in London refused without being married to a Thai national?

Just wondering if any one has had any problems with getting a multiple non-o based on my child from the Thai embasssy in London??

I never actually sent my passport away to the embassy as the lady I was in conversation with at the embassy instructed me that it would be refused due to the fact I am not married to a Thai national.

I have been issued single non-o from Vientiane many times with no problems but since I was back in the UK for a few weeks I thought I would apply, but obviously didn't after been told that it would be refused!!

Any body else had this problem or heard anything?

By the way I have since returned to Thailand and been to Laos again and was issued another single non-o!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author is seeking advice regarding difficulties in obtaining a multiple Non-O visa at the Thai embassy in London, particularly due to not being married to a Thai national. They have successfully acquired single Non-O visas from Vientiane but were advised by embassy staff that their application would likely be refused. Comments reveal that some consulates are strict about issuing these visas without legal parental rights established through marriage, suggesting that those with such rights may have more success in acquiring multi-entry visas.

Yeah tod I am aware that you can extend for 60 days. Not that I have ever done that as I work offshore and I am never normally at home as long as 5 months at 1 time, that's why the multiple non-o would be ideal for me as I can come and go from work offshore as I please and not get any hasssle at immigration when entering Thailand.

Yeah I have been told about Penang issuing the multiple non-o, but I have also heard people been refused on there first attempt and only getting a single non-o, but on there 2nd attempt it has been issued.

You can get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O based on supporting a half thai child in Penang.

You need the birth certificate, the thai child's house book listing and 400K baht in the bank (no seasoning required, foreign accounts acceptable too).

That's the only place I know that will issue one in S/E Asia.

Yep, some of the thai consulates in western countries are hard as nails about issuing them when you have not gone thru family court and been granted parental rights. (Just being listed as the father on the birth certificate doesn't give you any parental rights to a half thai child born out of wedlock).

The only success story I remember was someone who got a year-long, multi-entry Non-O from the thai consulate in London by showing he was married to the child's mother when it was born but subsequently divorced (meaning he had parental rights granted when the child was born due to being married to the mother).

Remember those 90 day single entry Non-O's you get can be extended by 60 days under the visit family reason for 1900baht at the immigration office..
