Hi. I've arrived in Thailand last week on a DTV and still trying to get my head around the DTV process.

Is the maximum amount of time I have to stay in Thailand 180 days total for the year from the date I arrived in Thailand?

If I was to fly to Malaysia/Vietnam before the 90 day extension report, would I still be able to do this throughout the year? Or is it capped up until 180 days have been stayed in Thailand?

Apologies if this has already been asked before.

Thanks
Answer summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) allows holders to stay in Thailand for up to 180 days each time they enter the country, with no annual limit on entries or total days. If you leave Thailand before reaching 90 days, you will reset your 180-day clock upon re-entry, avoiding the need for a 90-day report as long as you exit before that deadline. However, if you do stay for 90 days or more, a report must be filed at an immigration office. Tax implications arise if you spend more than 180 days in Thailand in a calendar year.

You have 180 days stamped when you enter. You need to do a 90-day report before the 90 days, or leave the country. Forget extending your 180 days, just leave for a bit to a nearby country and come back to get stamped again. If you are on a workcation DTV you can only be in the country for 6 months out of the year or else taxes can be imposed.

That’s my understanding of it all.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Anonieme deelnemer 106 Taxes are independant from visa type. When you are a total of 180 days or more in a calendar year in the country, you are tax resident and depending on your situation and the DTA in place for your country, you might have to pay tax.

You have to report every 90 days or you can leave in 89 days and never have to report. It just starts all over

And if you do that, you need to pay taxes in Thailand.

You can stay yo to 180 days at a time WITHOUT EXITING. If you cross borders, you can stay for the full five and a half years. Each entry treats grants 180 days.

The last half year is just an assumption it will behave the same as METV, but we still have to see this.

Dtv is a 5 year multi entry visa you are stamped in for 180 day stays. You can go in and out whenever you want. But at 179 days you do a border run and are stamped in for another 180 days. You can apply for the extension in immigration but its like supplying all the paperwork again. I just go out the week before my 180 days usually plan a trip my last time l rode my motorcycle across from nong khai ti Vientiane laos then travelled up north veng vieng, laprabang, slow boat ti chang Thong chang rai chang mai. Or you can fly out spend a couple of days and back you come its fun. Do your 90 day report at tge immagration office where you live its easy especially when they get to know u

OP
Okay thanks for the replies. So as I understand, I can stay in Thailand under my DTV for as long as I'm within the 180 days stamped on my passport. And if I was to leave the country within 90 days, I'd get a new stamp with the timer reset and I wouldn't have to file the 90 day report.

And I can do this continuously throughout the year.

Correct?

Yes 🙂‍↕️

BUT Why are you not wanting to do a 90 day report? It's easy to do. And there's Thai Visa Agents which will do it for you for a fee of 500 Thai baht.

And maybe good to mention, it is completely legal, letting the reporting do by an agent, in fact everybody can do in your name with the proper documents, and it still counts as "in person" .

I never understood why TM47 exists, when TM30 is done correct, TM47 doe not give any new info.

the 90 day report is free and easy. If you are leaving anyway before 90 days, you never have to do it. But no need to deliberately leave to avoid it, it can take as little as 2 minutes (or you can even do it by post, or pay an agent 500B to do it). It's the extension that is difficult, that people say to leave instead.

no, the 180 days stamps resets every time you enter Thailand. If during a month you go abroad and come back 3 times, your stay will reset each time, back to 180 days. There's no limitation in how many entries, exits and re-entries you can do.

DTV holders, please try to understand what you bought.

at entry with a valild DTV you get a maximum of 180 days as Admitted until xx/xx/xxxx stamped in your passport.

Before this period ends you can apply once for an maximum of 180 day Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office.

There is NO maximum time you have to stay, nobody force you to visit and stay in Thailand, it is all your own free will.

You get 180 days stay for each entry. You can go out and come back multiple times and you will get 180 days stay validity each entry. There's no limits in a year. You will only need to do 90 days report if you stay more than 90 days.

Each time you enter Thailand using a DTV you’ll be stamped in for 180 days (assuming immigration approval). So you are able to stay more than 180 days a year in Thailand but you must always either leave or extend prior to the departure date stamped in your passport.

If you depart and re-enter prior to your 90 day report date then it’ll reset to your newest entry stamp which will be day

you are meant to report after 90 days in the country. It isn't checked at the airport, only immigration offices in country. If you have never done it and you need to go to immigration in country for some reason (an extension, or a residence cert for a DL or to buy a vehicle) that's the point they'd fine you. The fine The fine is usually capped at 2,000 and doesn't get worse however long you leave it or how many times you didn't do it, it's still 2,000 next time you need something (if ever), you then need to pay the fine and do it before whatever else you need from them.

I didn’t say the entry stamp reset. I said the 90 day counter resets to your new entry stamp.
