What is the process to obtain a multi re-entry permit? A previous thread mentioned it as time consuming. I thought to just go to the main immigration office in Bangkok somewhat early and bring passport, copies first passport page, and baht. thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a multi re-entry permit in Thailand, you can go to the main immigration office in Bangkok or any immigration office, including those at airports which are open 24/7. It's advised to arrive early and bring your passport, a copy of the first passport page, and the necessary fee (including a 200 baht service charge at Suvarnabhumi Airport). The process at airports is generally quick, averaging around 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day and the number of people waiting. For re-entry, ensure that you use the re-entry permit number on the TM6 form.

be advised that Suvarnabhumi charges a 200baht service fee in addition to the price of the re-entry permit.

DMK doesn't charge? I guess they have much less international flights.

At SUV' the desk is in a corner of the immigration hall. Get the re-entry after check-in but before going thru passport control / immigration

Thanks for the tips, I guess it's not difficult but make sure you go early. Are they always open

at the airports? I have never done it at the airport.

Just a heads up I believe that when you re-enter the Visa No. on TM6 form is the re-entry permit number (rather than original visa number).

How long it takes at the airport varies because it depends on how many people are working at the desk and how many are in the queue to get one. It has taken me 10 mins at DMK but it has taken me 30 mins as well. The last time I got it at Swampy, it took me 15 mins.

Thanks for the time estimates!

you can only get at airports on the day of departure (you do after flight check-in). In advance of travel you can get at immigration CWattana.

Definitely not difficult, time consuming ?!? At the airport there was a poster at the desk saying it'll take a max of 20 min or so (for me last time <10min). If you're flying at a peak time maybe allow upto 40min !?!

You can get it from the airport. I've never heard that it's difficult
