Hello guys. Day 1 done in Savannakhet. Arrived 6.30am to Mukdahan. Took a tuk-tuk to the boarder. Immigration done under 30 mins both side. 1 ID photo and application form plus 1500THB. Arrived to the consulate 7.45am. Opening hours from 8.30am but they didnt open the gate till 9.15am. Forgot the application form so i had to fill in one. They ask only copies from everything. They did not wanted to even see the original docs. One thing to mention they ask a copy from the passport as well here in Savannakhet. Do not understand why if they take the passport but never mind i had 2 copies. So i gave all the paperwork plus 5000THB and got my number. 0003. Tomorrow after 2pm i can go collect my passport. Tomorrow i will come back with update again. Enjoying Savannakhet and the market. The prices are really funny here. Everything is so cheap.. :D

Thanks for everyone for the help and information

Both Nok Air and Air Asia offer a fly-n-ride from Bangkok to the Mukdahan Indochine market.

Can someone please confirm the current paperwork /documents required for the extension based on marriage in Savannakhet

@Ana***
, The up-coming holiday closure dates for Savannakhet are Friday the 6th, Friday the 13th & Monday the 16th :)

we are not in a rush and planning to go after Songkran and I think the consulate is closed on Monday anyway

I know people who have done those trips with both airlines. The only down side is the air asia flight gets you to the Mukdahan Market too late to get across into Lao and then get to the thai consulate on time so you have to spend an extra day

I don't even think the earliest Nok Air flight gets you to Mukdahan early enough either. :/
Ananda ****
Thank you, just checked Air Asia and the flight is to Nakhon Phanom and arranged transfer to Mukdahan. That might be the way to go!

Hi, I am planning to go to Savannakhet and was going to fly from Bangkok to Nakhon Phanom and then bus. I can’t find any information about buses doing this route other than a 20h night bus with 2 stops. The bus from Bangkok via Mukdahan seems like the best option.

Has anyone tried the Nakhon Phanom option?

@Ananda *************
nok chi busses single story bus. Probably spelt wrong. English movies meals and you arive at Mukdahan 7am ish. I've never had a problem with them. Some companies are a nightmare.
Ananda ****
@Steven *****
yes that’s what I found too

usually i try to look for buses on rome2rio website but there i can not see any direct bus from Nakhon to Mukdahan. only taxi and is about 700-900THB. Bangkok-Mukdahan is quite a long journey. the site says 10 hours.

just weighing up the options at the moment, I thought I had figured it out but it seems that I have to keep researching

Ananda Mello Costa It all depends on what time it arrives in Mukdahan .....if you don't get the 7.30 or 8.30 bus across the bridge you are cutting it fine to to get to the Consulate .Even though I can get a 3am bus from Surin I always get the 6pm and stay in a Hotel..The Buses are notorious for not running on time with late arrivals .But the choice is yours :)
Ananda ****
@Alan ***************
thank you. How about the night bus?
Alan *******
Although the bus is a pain I would recommend you take one from Bangkok to Mukdahan that arrive during the day and stay in a Hotel for the night .There is an OK one in the top left-hand side of the bus station,( about 400 baht ) .You can then get up about 6.45, have some breakfast and take the first 7.30 bus across the bridge .I think the Hotel is called Submukda Phoomplace Hotel
Alan *******
Also get a New TM.6 as you leave Thailand , you can have filled in for your return and get through Thai Immigration whist others are filling in their's TM 6 ;)
Terry **********
Yep I received one the last time going over before returning did not ask but she obviously knew what I was going for...I said I have a spare old one I was going to fill in....she just laughed

@Tod ********
can I download the form I need to fill in at the consulate anywhere?
Craig *********
Excellent. That's what I have. I was looking at my wife's change of name certificate before and wondering why it was only one side
Tod *********
You don't need the one in the above image, you need the front and back of this one
Tod *********
@Craig ********
BOTH of the thai marriage certificates have things written or stamped on the back and you need BOTH sides copied and signed.

You really don't need to have the one that looks like a form, just the one with the rose border around it.
Craig *********
My mistake. I was looking at a different document
Craig *********
@Alan ***************
have they changed the marriage certificate? Mine is just one side?

I take it you're getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai?
Joe ***********
@Tod ********
I have seen them turn down people saying they do not do O visa based on marriage, they send this guy away while he had all the paperwork and went there before several times without a problem!
Adrian ************
@Greg ****
there is a airport about 1-30 from mukdahan but I forgot the name lol it's about 3000 baht to fly last time I did it mate
Joe ***********
Use Google Maps
Joe ***********
You can't really drive into Laos without a lot of documentation, insurance and hassle, so I recommend the Kiengpiman hotel in Mukdahan, Thailand - drive in the evening before - leave the car - get a tuk tuk next morning to get to the bridge to Savannakhet.
Greg *****
@Joe **********
thank you .. would probably drive .. I’ve looked at google

Maps , my girl is from Korat which is on the way .. so that might work
Joe ***********
@Greg ****
- depending on where you start - you can fly to Ubon Rachathani... Take bus to Mukdahan. Or Take a bus to Sakon Nakhon - then a van or bus to Mukdahan
Steven ******

@Greg ****
bus coz we dont have a car right now
Tod *********
@Greg ****
It's across the river from Mukdahan. You can get there by bus, or you can fly into the airport there I believe (it's way expensive to fly in though).

It's one of the two thai consulates in the area that will issue a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai without proof of finances.

The other one that issues that visa is the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam
Greg *****
I didn't realise there was a consulate at Savannakhet .. how did you travel there ?? fly ? bus ?
