Hi, I am Italian citizen (I was born in Thailand and i started the process to get my local ID card as i never got one, going slow the burocracy), coming to Thailand with my girlfriend (not married yet but planning to) and our daugther, both Spanish citizen. We are coming first with a tourist visa of 60days and will make extension of other 30days. We want to settle down there, planning to run a business as small resort or a café/restaurant. What would you suggest as the best way at the beginning till i will obtain my national ID to stay and work legally in Thailand? Should we open a company? As Thai names I can have my mother and other friends as well that I can surely trust.

Thanks in advance for any informations or recommendations.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Italian citizen born in Thailand is seeking advice on how to stay and work legally in Thailand while waiting to obtain a national ID. They are currently on a tourist visa and considering options to set up a business. The conversation highlights that citizenship may depend on having a Thai parent and suggests exploring an ancestry visa as a possible option. Additionally, comments emphasize the need for original documents like the birth certificate and clarify that the girlfriend, although a partner, may not have special visa options.

For a start you. will need your original birth certificate, it has a registration no, that will identify you on the national database. If one of your parents is Thai you are Thai. If not you may qualify depending on how old you are, as they changed the rules. Good Luck

Your girlfriend however will not be able to get anything special despite the fact you have children together

Presumably your mother is Thai so then you can get citizenship. Until then you can get an ancestry visa.

Get your citizenship first check out Thailand Citizenship group.

But if you are just born here to foriegn parents you dont qualify

This only works if one of your parents is Thai. You can only get citizenship by having a Thai parent, not by just being born in Thailand.
