TLDR : Answer Summary
This conversation revolves around the process of authenticating documents for marriage in Thailand, particularly for foreigners. It highlights the challenges faced, such as the inability to certify degrees and marriage certificates at the Thai government office in Chaeng Wattana and the specific requirements for US passport holders. Key points include the importance of obtaining legalization in the UK, the use of pre-paid envelopes for document return, and the need for legalizing divorce documents if applicable.

, you would use "consular services", sometimes thats on the embassy grounds and sometimes the consulate is its own building.

They are just making it harder and harder to stay here. So if I am Australian, I go to Australian Consulate to certify mine? Or Australian Embassy doesn’t do it too

you are talking about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office and they don't certify degrees, that comes from your country's consulate here or back in your country

The US consulate won't certify a degree, period end of story. You can fill out a blank affidavit stating the transcripts are accurate and they'll notarize that but that's about all you can do in country. Otherwise you have to get them doen thru this link

While a pain, it does work quite efficiently. Just make sure you include a pre-paid envelope addressed to the Thai Embassy in London (for the Legalisation Office to use) and a pre-paid envelope addressed to you for the Thai Embassy to send the document back. The Legalisation fee is paid online, but when I did it, the Thai Embassy insisted on a £10 postal order. The whole process took around 2 weeks. It helps if you can do it all within the UK.

Yes its a bloody nightmare to do from here as I found out and many solicitors would not accept our divorce document was original as they no longer stamp them with a red seal!!I got my daughter to stick a £10 note in and it was fine, took about 3 weeks to get done in uk then another 3 to hget here and when it arrived it was soaking wet and we had to dry it out before opening!! Good old Thai potman lol

It is also critical in the case your Thai partner divorced in the UK as a copy of original the divorce document also has to be signed by a solicitor or ontary public then legalised in the UK if you wish to marry in Thailand.

This topic is especially critical for foreigners who married thais in the UK and need to get the marriage certificate authenticated.

You CANNOT get that done in Bangkok anymore from the consulate.
