Hello,

My current tourist visa stamp runs out September 10th, i am former Non-imigrant Visa holder.

What is the process like to extend my tourist visa by 30 days at Immigration office? Is it a long frustrating process and better to fly out and back again?

How long in advance should it be applied?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend a tourist visa in Thailand by 30 days at the Immigration office, one should arrive early to avoid long lines, preferably between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, as afternoons tend to be much busier. The process involves waiting for your queue number, submitting the required documents, and receiving the extension, which can typically take around 1-2 hours. It is advisable to apply for the extension a few days before the current visa expires to ensure a smooth process. Some individuals suggest that, depending on personal circumstances, it may be easier to exit the country and re-enter rather than extending the visa.

My friend went to CW to extend visa exempt stamp on 10th, last Friday. Arrived before 13:00 and left CW before 15:00...

well, that totally shoots down my idea that the afternoon is bad :O :/ ;)

To give you an example I was out at the immigration office this morning at 4:30 :O to wait in line to get into the door at 8:30. By 8 there were 300 people in line and by the time the door opened there were over 400.

Now with that being said IF you showed up around 8:50 or so you could probably get your 30 day extension by 10AM

I say that because tourists as a rule don't get up early so the mornings out there aren't bad in that section. The afternoons are TERRIBLE though for the tourist visa and visa exempt extension areas

Depending on where you are, you stand in line, wait your queue number, hand in the papers, get the 30 days Extension and of you go. In some offices you could be alone, at others it could be busy.
