Hello, does anyone have experience applying for an education visa from KL or Vientiane or elsewhere in the region, specifically for a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT (American who will be studying at an international school in Chiang Mai)? I'd like to know if the process generally takes 2 days? (morning of Day 1 submit visa application, afternoon of Day 2 pick up visa/passport) Which is easiest Embassy? Any pointers or things to know or be aware of? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Applying for an education visa for a high school student in Thailand can typically be completed in two days at most Thai consulates in the region, including Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane. The process usually involves submitting the application on the morning of Day 1 and picking up the visa on the afternoon of Day 2. It's noted that many international schools may handle visa applications internally, potentially avoiding the need for students to travel to neighboring countries for visa issuance.

Most thai consulates in the area (except for the one in Phnom Penh) have a turn it in one morning, pick it up the next afternoon.

Why can't the international school pull that ED visa inside the country. I know that down here most international schools DON'T send the students out to get the 90 day single entry ED visa. They're issued at the immigration office.

If it's an international high school they can do it too. I know students at NIST and other schools DON'T go outside the country to get ED visas.

Ask at the school, they'd certainly know if they can do it or not

. You've heard of the immigration office converting a tourist visa to an ED visa?

The only experience I have of this was a guy in the same queue as me in Vientiane back in 2012. He applied for an Education Visa the first day and collected it on the second day.
