TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of obtaining an education visa for the U.S. can vary in duration. It's suggested to potentially expedite the process by applying in the U.S. rather than from abroad, particularly if assistance is available from the school. Additionally, the choice of consulate, such as the Thai consulate in Chicago or St. Louis, can impact processing times.

I'm currently in Thailand and was letting the school help me with it but inhave to fly back to the States and the school told merit might be quicker just to get it in the states.

usually schools give the documents to you so you can give them to the consulate when you apply for the visa.

Good Luck (y)

Yes I realize that. He had been sending over the documents to Malaysia so everything would be ready for us when we arrived.

Most thai consulates in the area have a turn in your passport and documentation one morning then pick it up the next afternoon with the visa in it.

It shows on your profile you're in Chiang Mai, so why would a school send you to Malaysia to get a visa from a thai consulate there when the thai consulate in Vientiane is a LOT closer?

, as a rule the school gives you documents from the Ministry of Education and YOU (and your passport) go to a thai consulate in another country and get the 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type ED visa. That's pretty much how it works.

The school isn't able to take your passport to another country and get the visa for you. :/

The school was going to do it in Malaysia but it's been almost three weeks now.

I did. I just don't know how long I'll be in Illinois. I just wanna make sure I have all my options and that I understand them I think the school has just confused me so much I'm just lost. Lol

@Kri****
you did read that link I jumped you right? ;)

The chicago thai consulate accepts visa applications by post so there's no problem applying for the visa via USPS, FedEX, or DHL..

I'd check with the school to see if they can get the 90 day Non-ED visa inside the country from the immigration office or not. Some can, some can't. They certainly would know.

You can always get the 90 day, single entry ED visa from a thai consulate in a nearby country like Penang or Kota Bharu Malaysia, Vientiane or Savannakhet Lao too.

Another parent here told me she got her child's education visa here in country and didnt have to leave. Is this a possibility? Tbh Chicago is not the most convient because of how far away it is from where I'll actually be. Thank you for helping me with this

as long as you have the documentation required at the specific consulate you're applying at you won' have any problem getting a 90 day single entry ED visa from a thai consulate in the USA
