Taipei DTV UPDATE: Same Day (or 2-3 days max) processing.

Went to Taipei’s Thailand “embassy” today and here’s what I learned

1. Foreigners can apply just with a passport and the visa application + your required documents (bank statement printed + soft power or proof of your remote work etc.

2. 9-11:30am every business day for visas, you get a number and they will call you . Drop off passport and documents

3. Within same day you’ll be notified if your visa was approved or rejected (and they will explain why)

4. PAYMENTS: You only need to pay AFTER it’s approved in cash which is incredible. The fee is actually REFUNDABLE if it doesn’t get approved.

5. The cost: 11,000 TWD (approx $360 USD)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared an update on the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application process at the Thai embassy in Taipei. They reported that foreigners can apply with just a passport, visa application, a bank statement, and proof of remote work. Visa submissions are accepted on weekdays from 9 AM to 11:30 AM, and applicants are notified of approval or rejection the same day. Payment is made only after visa approval, with a fee of 11,000 TWD (about $360 USD), which is refundable if denied. Comments reveal further inquiries about document requirements and clarification on whether one needs to be a resident of Taiwan to apply.

Awesome, thank you!

It's fascinating to see how people tell different stories (especially about documents being stamped and notarized or not).
Kraig ******
From what I read you must apply for the DTV in your country of residence. So how is this post even real?
Marcus *******
@Kraig *****
A friend living in Taipei called the office twice today to confirm. They told her "as long as the documents are complete, they will issue DTV, regardless of the applicant's nationality or country of residence."

THIS is NOT an official website!! CAREFUL !!! A lot of their advice is wrong and outdated
John *******
@Kraig *****
Other nationalities can apply too. Only some countries require you to be a citizen / permanent resident.

What you've read was probably not real I guess. 🤣
Kraig ******
@John ******
it was on the Thai embassy website.
John *******
@Kraig *****
Can you share the link to the page?
Kraig ******
John *******
@Kraig *****
This is the part you need. 'a consulate'

Most of them allow you to apply without being a citizen or permanent resident. Taiwan being one of them. Japan for example does not allow tourists to apply. You have to be a citizen of Japan or a permanent resident there. In any case you definitely need to check with your local embassy because every country is different. Other countries where it seems to work are Laos Cambodia Malaysia Singapore Indonesia.
Kraig ******
@John ******
yes I saw this also which made me wonder
John *******
@Kraig *****
which part? :)
John *******
@Kraig *****
Thank you for sharing the link!

Where does it say country of citizenship or country of residence? I can't seem to find that part.
Kraig ******
@John ******
it says you must apply outside of Thailand. I’m not going to search further but I’ve read I’d need to go back to the Uk to apply and someone I know who deals with law and visas said yes that’s correct.
Andi ***********
@Kraig *****
That is not correct, lots of Brits are applying outside of the Uk
Kraig ******
@Andi **********
ok that’s great news for me. I’ve been living in Thailand two years now and need to switch visas and DTV is good for me
Andi ***********
@Kraig *****
ok, Taipei is very good option as same day approval, pick up next day. Next month it goes online though but they told me it will be approved within 2 days online.
Lynnette *******
@Kraig *****
applying in Taiwan is "outside" of Thailand. So should be ok.

@Kraig *****
this is not an official Thai government website. They ("Thaiembassydotcom") are renowned for printing a lot of rubbish
John *******
@Kraig *****
I'm sorry to say but this someone is incorrect. I got my information first hand from the actual embassy and I think they know what they're talking about. 🙃
Janelle *****

@John ******
and so did I.
Kraig ******
@John ******
what did they tell you?
Nongnuch ********
@Kraig *****
yes you must apply outside of Thailand. However it is not limited to your home country. You can apply on Thai embassies and consulates in many other countries as well. Even when some are now connected to the E-visa system - if you can prove you have entered the specific country, you are allowed to apply
Kraig ******
@Nongnuch *******
can you give me an example of how that would work if I went to Laos to do it please?

@Kraig *****
at the moment you can use the embassy in Vientiane and the consulate in Savannakhet, for the application to a DTV. If you bring all required documents. Both have not yet taken up the E-visa System. Vientiane needs an appointment, and Savannakhet is walk-in. Why don't you join the DTV Facebook Group? Everything is well explained, and every other day foreign applicants get issued a DTV in Vientiane

@Janelle ****
I will post an update later with the email and screenshots. On the go at that moment.

Do you have to be a resident in Taiwan? (Your post implied no need to, but I just want to make sure.) Can I visit Taiwan as a tourist and apply the DTV visa there?

In my opinion it's very unclear. Because some countries are stated to be allowed to apply with a residence visa. But what about the rest? Can they apply no matter the visa?
Nongnuch ********
@John ******
Some confusion, because the wording is confusing:

It should read like the following:

“Nationals from Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen

Citizens of THESE countries need to have a residence in Taiwan, IF they want to apply for the Destination Thailand Visa at the Taipei Office.

Citizens of all other countries can apply, they don’t need to have a residence in Taiwan”

Please inquire to find out, if your passport country allows you to apply for DTV with us
John *******
@Nongnuch *******
Thank you for the clarification! 🫶

Who is 'us' and where did you get this clarification from? :)

Like, can you trust your source? :)
Nongnuch ********
@John ******
i just corrected the wording from off the website of the Taipei Thai Embassy. The text is followed by an email adress where you can inquire
John *******
@Nongnuch *******
That's just an interpretation then. :)

It could also mean, that:

only those can apply, and if so, need a residence.

Other countries can't apply at all.

I would be super interested in that too. Do they want to see regular income or is it only about having enough money on your account?

They told me via email a few weeks go just the balance was suffice. They have tightened things up a bit in the last week though
John *******
@Andi **********
yeah that makes a big difference. I keep my money invested in working for me and not on my personal bank account. I can transfer whatever money they want to see on my personal bank account for my company bank account tomorrow and show it but it's obviously not a regular income. 🙈

@John ******
Me too, keep bulk of money invested. It should be ok with the one statement but useful to get the latest from someone who has been there today.

exactly! I would love to hear some first-hand information of someone who got actually accepted in recent days or weeks.
