How did you and your husband successfully obtain your Digital Nomad Visas at the Taipei office?

My husband and I just had our DTVs approved same day at the Taipei office (both Canadian). Applied at 9am, picked up our passports with stamps at 4pm.

We applied individually (him with his own business, me as a freelancer). We printed out our documents at 7/11 and brought the 11000 TWD cash for the application fees.

Besides the usual documentation, we also provided the following based on the success stories were read here:

• A cover letter outlining the nature of our work and how it is conducted remotely

• A resume

• 5 months of bank statements

• I provided printout of my portfolio, a couple of my freelance contracts and invoices

• My husband provided a copy of his business registration

We got there before 9am, and there was only one other person in front of us (everyone else was there for Thai Citizen services). We were asked why we want to travel to Thailand and why we aren’t applying in our home country. Then they insisted we have a Taiwanese number to contact us, but we didn’t have one as we were using data-only eSIMs so we went to grab a couple of SIM cards which set us back an hour.

We rushed back before 12pm to submit everything again, and they said they would call if they needed more documentation, but if we don’t hear back, then to come back at 4pm.

Well, we didn’t get a call so we came back at 4pm and it was approved. If it’s convenient and works for your situation I would recommend the Taipei office.

I would suggest reading the threads here carefully and gather information for your own situation as every office is different. Good luck to anyone else applying!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian couple successfully applied for their Digital Nomad Visas (DTV) at the Taipei office, receiving approval on the same day. They shared their experience, highlighting essential documents such as a cover letter, bank statements, freelance contracts, and a business registration. Key takeaways included the necessity of having a local Taiwanese phone number and the importance of being prepared with adequate documentation. They encouraged future applicants to refer to community insights for tailored guidance, as experiences can vary across different offices.

Congrats. Did you had to have your company registration stamped and signed?

Ideally, the employment certificate/ cover letter should be stamped and signed but definitely not the company registration.

no, neither of us had to do that

Thanks for sharing.

May I know how your husband applied by showing business?

Was it showing he owned a business outside of Thailand?

With what status at that business did he mentioned in his portfolio?

TIA

Yes, it’s a company registered in Canada. I’m the one that showed my portfolio as I applied as a freelancer.

Weldone , what was the price of it please, I heard about it but didn't look into it

I'm on a over 50s retirement visa.

Not sure if worth it for me to change over.

@Darren *****
If you can get it, why not. Get the Taiwan gold card while you are at it.

@Stephen *******
why Taiwan , I live in Thailand 😂
Stephen ********
@Darren *****
Because taiwan has free healthcare and a simple permanent residency after 3 years if you stay there six months. Even if you don’t you still have free healthcare and another residency for 3 years for like $350. Don’t need to though, do what you want

@Stephen *******
but I live in Thailand and no plans to leave but thx 🙏

@Darren *****
You stay in thailand,

you don’t live there until you are a citizen or resident. They’ve done a good job tricking people into not seeing the difference.

In Canada you cannot go to Thai embassy in Ottawa. U must do it electronically from their website.

Congrats!

I also got approved the same day. Although I am a Taiwanese citizen, but I did see foreign passport with DTV on their desk.

TBH, if your docs are not qualified you will be turned down in 1st stage without charging you any. If they accept your docs, then 90%+ you will be approved.

I noticed that - it’s nice they check your docs first.

I previously read that they only need one month of bank statements. Has it changed?

Going there tomorrow ...

how things’ going?

Did you get approval?
Jared *********
@Dustin *****
I did get approved and going to pick it up tomorrow. Lots of questions and discussion to clarify documents. Two day process rather than same day for me.

Saw two others there that were having issues getting theirs approved (not denied just need clarification or additional documents). It seems if any documents or situation is a little different than normal then it takes some time to explain.

I am the majority shareholder in a USA based C-corporation and receive income both through a w-2 and also from monthly interest payments from an investment.

I provided:

one month bank statements

Letter from company showing remote work allowed

Articles of Incorporation

DBA filing

Loan agreement to show income from investment

W-2 to show income

And a personal financial statement to show networth, income, etc

They got a little confused on the DBA versus official company name but we discussed and got through it. They needed a supervisor to review it which was later in the day, therefore the two day process. They did ask if I came to Taiwan specifically to apply for the DTV. Not sure if that was a positive or negative. They didn't take the application fee until after they confirmed that it will be approved. That was definitely appreciated.

The other individuals that were turned away to come back with more info had unique income situations (one was crypto). They will also try again tomorrow with additional info. The other was asked to provide business license of their employer but they don't own the company so they didn't have that.

One thing that stood out to me was to provide the documents in sections describing the information rather than providing all the documents at once. First application form. Then bank statements. Then income information. And so forth in order to simplify things.

Do you know what they said to the crypto guy?
Dustin ******
@Jared ********
Congrats!

So now we know 1. TTEO accepts one-month statement

2. Prepare docs as much as possible and present them to officer one by one with clear logic to simplify the process

3. Currently there’s no “under table rules” such as those in Phnom Penh, KL or Vientiane. They treat your application with transparency and consistent standard.

And the last, I think TTEO is a hidden gem for potential applicants - it will never be bombarded by fake documents from mainland chinese applicants ( due to political tensions), so TTEO may stay in its clear mind for a while - until there’s too much applications flooding in.

@Dustin *****
My only concern is what if you're a foreigner working for a mainland Chinese company applying in Taipei? Will they reject you because either they suspect the documents are fake or because of the lack of diplomatic relations with the mainland?
Dustin ******
@Paul ******
I’m not sure. You can try to send them an email. They are really responsive.

Good Insights! Thanks for your details

not sure if it's required but we did see other embassies ask for 3-6 months, so we didn't want to take any chances
