TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about the process of applying for a COVID visa in Thailand, including how soon they can apply and the necessary documentation. Comments suggest applying closer to the expiry of the current visa to avoid losing time, as applications may start from the date of application. It's recommended to consult with the local immigration office for specific procedures and requirements, as the COVID extension is stricter and not universally granted. Additionally, having an outward flight booking is advised as some offices may require proof of travel.

Just a tip. Have an outward bound flight booked within the sixty day period. I do know some offices have been asking for proof of a flight booking.

US embassy will not provide any letters for any type of visa extensions. They will email you with a response same day of enquiry.

Just an FYI for those that are here from USA

and if that is the case, covid extension applicants would tick the box 'my embassy does not give covid letters' and include a print off of the reply confirming that.

Your best going and asking this question at the closest immigration office were you are staying.

It’s up to individual officers if they will do a covid extension, it’s not a visa. The covid extension has become very strict on who can get it.

Someone just posted a report on just getting his extension yesterday

Switching from a tourist visa/extension to a covid extension will probably mean they’ll date it from the day you apply, so you don’t want to be going too early. Also many offices will require you to have taken the regular 30 day extension before applying for a covid one.

I already have extended my Visa. Do I need a letter from my embassy to apply for the covid visa

I haven’t heard of any offices asking for this in months, but with them cracking down of who gets the extension it’s not impossible that some may be asking. If you say which office you are going to use then perhaps someone can confirm if they do or don’t.

I will be going to chang wattana in bkk. I will ring my embassy and ask. Think it better to have it and not need it just incase. Also how much is the covid visa extension

all extensions are 1,900 baht
