What is the process for a teacher in Phuket to transfer their work permit and extension to a new job in Bangkok without leaving Thailand?

I am asking this question on behalf of a friend. They currently have a job teaching in Phuket with a valid work permit and extension of stay valid until March 2021. They have been offered a new job teaching in Bangkok. Under the current rules what is the correct process he should follow to end up with a valid extension and work permit for the new job (all paperwork is available from both schools). Obviously he will not be leaving the country.

Thanks for your expertise.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A teacher currently working in Phuket wants to transfer to a new teaching job in Bangkok while maintaining their visa status. The process requires coordination between the current and new employers. The teacher must first cancel their existing extension of stay with documentation from their current employer at the local immigration office. Then, they need to apply for a new extension at the immigration office corresponding to their new job, where they should present documents from the new employer. It is important for the teacher to handle this within the proper timeline and ensure they communicate with both immigration offices to avoid any complications, since they are dealing with different jurisdictions.

Do they have a permanent teacher’s license (5 year) from Kurusapa? If not, it may be difficult for the new school to prepare the paperwork in time. Those who use the 2 year temporary teaching licenses are the ones who will have a problem. That document sometimes takes weeks. If the new school is attentive, they may be able to do it. But, usually they are not proactive enough.

Things to consider.

useful info. They have the temporary 2 year license.

BOTH employers need to work together AND he would need to cancel the current extension with documentation from the employer at the immigration office that he uses now, GO to the new immigration office and apply for a new extension with documents from the new employer.

He can cancel an extension early at his current employment (go a week or so before his last day and they will stamp him in until that date) then he'll have time to go to the other immigration office with documents from the new employer to apply for the new extension.

because he's using two completely different immigration offices I'd say he should go and talk to them both before he tries to pull it off. It CAN be done, BUT he's gonna hafta really have his shit together to make it work. There's not much room for error, it either works or he will have to leave :/

thanks. It’s what I thought, and it is a worry. They are deciding whether to accept the job or not based on the risk of it going wrong (hence my question to get confirmation of process). Thanks again.
