Can two schools in Thailand collaborate on processing my work permit and visa when changing jobs?

Hi Robert Lagas Tod Daniels everyone!

So, I am moving from one school to another. I am currently working in the South and will be in Chiang Mai by April. My question is, can two schools connect together in processing my documents and work permit so that I don't have to go out to re-apply for Non-B or would it be better to just cancel everything (Extension of stay and work permit) here in South then go out and apply in Vientiane for the 60 day TV then come to Chiang Mai and redo the whole process. Thanks for your insights!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the complexities of changing jobs in Thailand as an expatriate teacher. The main question is whether two schools can collaborate to process documentation and a work permit without the need to exit and reapply for a Non-B visa. Comments reflect on personal experiences, suggesting that while it is theoretically possible for the two employers to sync up, it is often impractical due to bureaucratic challenges. The consensus appears that if the current school can manage the transition smoothly, it might be possible to stay in Thailand, but in many cases, exiting the country and reapplying for a tourist visa before transitioning to the Non-B visa may be more straightforward.

I also tried this once but getting to Thai schools to work together is impossible more or less in the end I had one day left to get out the country and the paperwork was not ready so I had to leave and start the whole thing again.

I heard one case of changing employers without leaving country but not a teacher. That case, HR sections from both company were working closely to do that on right schedule, which doesn't happen often. usually company doesn't care more than necessary about staff who is leaving. Other employees changing job from same company had to leave.

, IF your new employer is suggesting you cancel your work permit and current extension of stay, exit the country, get a tourist visa from a thai consulate, come back and then apply for the Non-B in country, WHY not just do that?

Tod Daniels thanks for the response. Yes, I might do that. I've just recieved an email from them after posting this.

We have had teachers who manage to do the whole process without leaving Thailand again but it is entirely up to your current employer and so it depends on whether you are leaving on good terms or not. Try to discuss it with them. Its definitely possible but the decision lies on the employer whom your current documents are done through.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ’“ that's a good way to try.

as with anything in Thailand its unpredictable. You would need to make that decision yourself. Perhaps ask the 2 x employers to connect and failing that then exit

will it be tough though? I just recieved an email from my new employer that they think the best thing that I should do is go out and come back in as Tourist. But my current employer said they could try to connect.

it's quite a process as your employer must cancel everything timeously with your new papers already being ready to process as you literally have a 7 x day window to complete everything once your current documents are cancelled. I would ask your employer to perhaps not cancel anything until you are in your new position and the new paperwork is almost ready.

thanks. How long do you think is the process? Is 1 month enough?
