Anyone applied for the yellow book Tabian Baan for foreigners? As I understand it I need to get my passport verified at the British Embassy then take this to Chaeng Wattana MOFA for translation then back to my local govt office with all the other documents. My question is, do I need an appointment at the Embassy or can somewhere else do it, e.g. VFS Global? do I get it over the counter there and then or do I come back another day? Any charge ( a stupid question but anyone know how much)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for applying for the yellow book (Tabian Baan) for foreigners can vary by district (amphur) in Thailand. Generally, you may need to first check with your local amphur office for their specific requirements. Typically, the steps include getting your passport verified at the British Embassy, which may require an appointment; checking if services like VFS Global can assist; getting your passport translated, often performed by a local approved translator; and gathering additional documents like photos and a copy of your spouse's housebook if applicable. Fees for these services may vary, and it is important to note that requirements can differ throughout various areas in Thailand, leading to some offices requiring different documentation.

Thanks guys, in Samut Prakarn they are only accepting translated passports - only by their office - and the passport certification from the British Embassy. different rules all over it seems!

Hopefully it’s as easy as this in Chang Mai

Once you get your yellow house book you then in it have a Thai I'd number so can then get a Thai I'd card. I did about 5 years ago.

True, if your amphur thinks farang should have pink cards. Relatively easy for me to get my yellow book, but my amphur doesn't think pink cards apply to farang (foreigners from local countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia are allowed) and won't issue to me.

In samutprakan (small amphur) they just took a copy of my passport in English my wifes housebook (she owns the house) and the application in Thai plus a bottle of JD - as they say every office is different.

I was only asked to get my passport translated and "certified". This was done by a local teacher who was approved by the immigration office. I also had to provide 2 x 6"x4" head to toe photo's - Kalasin.

The very FIRST thing you need to do is head on over to your "city hall" (amphur) and get the hand out that they have listing what you need to do to apply for a yellow house book in their district. There are 50 amphurs in Bangkok and they all do it different from one another.

I wouldn't run to get anything certified or translated just yet.

once you get the passport certified you GO to a translation shop (any will do) and they translate the data page of your passport into thai and most will take and get the certified translation stamp at the MFA out at the Goverment Complex too for one price.

for instance this is what you need in at the Amphur office in Khlong Toey to get a yellow house book issued
